This is close to the best odd job I've had in a while. So here goes.
Work has two new Hilux bakkies, two 2.7VVTi's. Boss drives 4x4 SRX and 2nd in command drives 2.7 Raider. Both are on their standard wheels and tyres.
4x4 - Standard Good-Years 205R16's ( think it is 6jj rims?). He is not happy with those tyres. 40 000km and they are m0@r toe.
Raider 2x4 - standard raider rims with with Dueler HT's 255/70/R15.
Now the options:
No2 wants to buy mags for his bakkie and give the raider rims to the boss. Boss will then need to put new tyres on. Now boss wants to know if he should not just keep his rims and fit better and maybe wider tyres.
So I have to do a quick cost breakdown for him.
Questions:
1 - SRX wheels: What tyres should I look at for him? Mostly on road driving, some mud at the building site and occasional gravel road driving. Road noise will be important to him.
2 - What is the widest that can be fitted on these rims?
3 - Raider wheels: They are a lot wider, and as the SRX does not have fender flares I foresee a problem with dirt being thrown up onto the sides of the bakkie. But if he chooses to fit these rims, what tyre for same conditions as in No. 1?
4 - What does your gut say? Is the swop worth it or not?
Thanks
Francois
My job today: What tyres for the boss???

Save Fuel – go narrow!!! (says I who has 265 15’s on 8J’s)
Big tyres look great but they inherently help suck your fuel card dry!
Whichever you chose
There is an 8% Increase on Tyres on 1st August, so act quick ïŠ
Hope this helps ïŠ
