NAM trip in June - border questions
Not sure if this is on the correct sub-foru, but here goes:
We are going to NAM ins June and I have a few questions.
I have procured documents from both my finance company and insurance company, to prove that the vehicle and trailer will be covered (and that I have the permission of the finance company to be in NAM), but here is the confusion:
Do I still need copies of the REG papers as well? As this currently is with the finance house until fully paid??
Another question: I know about the ZA sticker that needs to be on the vehicle - does this apply to the trailer as well?
I appreciate all replies here!

You need ZA sticker for both Vehicle and trailer
They did not ask for our registration papers, but i would take a copy, just in case.
My finance company emailed me a copy, does not need to be certified

Just pay the road tax when enter, and when ever you are stopped show them your driving license and that road tax receipt sommer before they ask anything, and tell them that you are on holiday, then drive off.

Re: NAM trip in June - border questions
remember to tell them about the trailer when you pay the road tax, else they will only ask for the vehicle details and the trailer will be illegal on the road. When I enterend Windhoek, I was asked for this road tax receipt and my drivers licence. This is a permanent road block, 24hours. Have a nice trip, I was there last year for 2 weeks and I went as far as Swakopmund.

Thank you chaps for all the replies, and well wishes! Looking forward to this trip in a BIG way!
BTW: What are the speed limits in NAM? I was told 80 on gravel and 120 on open road tar? I would imagine 60 in towns? I am not sure, and don't want to pick up trouble with law enforcement in a foreign country!

Re: NAM trip in June - border questions

Re: NAM trip in June - border questions

Re: NAM trip in June - border questions
Re: NAM trip in June - border questions
We crossed the border at Sendlingsdrift on the pont, we had more questions from the S.A. border officials than in Namibia. On their side we filled in the documents with no problem, paid the road tax which you must have on you at all times. the only time we saw Nam police was just outside the border post looking for firearms and road tax certificate.
Tarred roads are in better condition than here at home, just remeber that there are no fences for miles and the wild life roam free, picnic spots are well kept and you can stop anywhere along the road and enjoy a break without fear. Even their dirt roads are in good condition and it helps that they take S.A. currency one for one, but I can't understand that you can't do it here back home when using their currency to by something.
It is a great place to travel and I am hoping to go to Damaraland at the end of the year, hot as hell but well worth the trip and then back home via the fish river canyon.

Re: NAM trip in June - border questions
Can one pay for fuel in Namibia with a SOuth African petrol card or do you have to take cash?
I will most probably only need to take in fuel at Vioolsdrif and Luderitz

Thanx Steve, with the two tanks together taking about R1,600.00 to fill it makes a bit of a difference in the amount of cash you have to take with you if you can use your card.

We filled up with garage cards, debit cards, credit cards no problem and they took SA Rands without a blink, can't say the same for the SA side, didn't even know what a Namibian doller was.

Any RSA petrol cards are accepted. I used my Discovery Motor Card all over. But only at petrol stations where the card facilities are working.
