New on the block.

Post by DADDYMAN »

Hi to all,

I am new on the scene and looking forward to meet all.

I have just purchased a 2012 30.d4d d/c r/b, fantastic vehicle, my 3rd one now.

Having a problem with vibration on this one on the steering wheel between 100 and 130km/h. Toyota have removed the Bridgestone AT and have now fitted the Aplollo Hawkz AT, the vibration is still there. i am returning vehicle now for the third time, only done 1500km has anyone had a problem like this. do you think i should insist they replace vehicle, could be a friday vehicle.

Looks like a great site, will put up up pics soon.

cheers

Hi Gavin Welcome!!

I’m no expert, so the only advice I can give you is to push them for a new one.

But I’m sure better advice than mine will follow . . . . .

Hi Gavin and welcome here!
A steering vibration at specific speeds is almost certainly a front wheel balance problem or less possibly a rim that's a little out of true.
I very much doubt that they will replace a complete vehicle for such a specific problem, and it seems that they are trying to rectify the error. You could perhaps suggest a high speed balancing of the front wheels to them, or replacing the rims.

Hope you come right and keep us up to date with the developments. ;-)

Agree with Andy on this one. Change the rims around & see if there is a difference. If there is, demand that they change the offending rim.

Welcome Gavin.

If you rotate the wheels, bring the spare into play as well. We had some vibrations from a back rim that was out, but could be felt throughout the vehicle. And me think the main manne will be back on Tuesday for more input . m50cw

Hi Guys,
Thanks a million for your responses

Some feedback, i took my hilux this Morning to Tiger Wheel and Tyre in Bellville.

They remove and checked all the wheels in font of me, we found that only one wheel was in balance, bearing in mind these tyres were fitted Thursday last week by Toyota approved provider. They balanced the other three wheels, fitted "worst" to back. Best thing they never charged me a cent wow what service couldnt believe it. So gratefull.

My hilux is going like new again having only 1600km on the clock very happy :yahoo:

Regards

Hi Gavin and welcome, glad to see you got your problem sorted out.

I once had a similar problem with the bakkie I own now. The balancing on the wheels where fine when checked, however after closer inspection Toyota noticed that the wheels where in fact oval, therefore the problem with an irritating shudder.
