A bit of 2x2
Ok here goes, this past Wednesday we went on a hike with my CupCake at a private farm in Hekpoort, near Magaliesburg. The trail is called Fountain Gully and was organised by the Johannesburg Hiking Club, of which I'm a member.
I have to admire her spirit and willingness to try new things, and her sense of adventure and/or outdoors is amazing for a black chick. I know many who wouldn't dare nor understand or appreciate nature. She rocks!
Anyway the night before she prepared some boerewors and the like for our lunch, water, biltong (which we forgot in the car when we went hiking ), a packet of jelly babies (my favourite) and I packed the bag - which I carried the following day allowing her to be as free as possible. The only thing that could have been done better was to organize hiking boots for her instead of the running shoes she used, becuase afterwards her left ankle was swollen, will have them next time.
The morning we were up and ready to go and made it for the agreed meeting spot, Hekpoort T-junction on R563 at 08:00 hrs. Waited a bit for other members and in no time we were going again. Anyone that knows my CupCake will by now know that she'll look sexy even in the bush, and so the make-up was also done
Formalities were done, members introduced themselves, fees paid and in no time bags are out and shoes laces tightened.
The first few mins were hectic as the terrien was very steep and rocky, breathing was up a notch and sweat started to run down - I was given the look

Further up after about 1 and a half hours we had another break and this is were the split happened; only the fast group was going past the waterfall and after a short family meeting, a vote was made to join the fast group.
Girls being girls, a chat room was soon established with various girly stuff discussed and this of course meant they slowed down a bit , what can I say?

Off we headed for the waterfall.
A few moments we spent admiring the waterfall and soon we would leave to go look for a spot for lunch. Plus my short range tank was on empty, driving barely on fumes, the sun made sure I got an extra tan too I was now degraded to a mere zombie
Not far a shaded spot was in sight

Ans so I found a private cool spot after lunch whilst enjoying the sound of the water just meters from me, timeless
Going back I had new strength and was enjoying myself even more, but the steep downhill I could feel my legs wobbling and unsteady, nonetheless I found it enjoyable.

Re: A bit of 2x2
At the base/start/finish it was the normal chit chat, my CupCake was happy except for a swollen ankle. New friends were made, numbers exchanged. My mind was now set on getting some cold ones in Magaliesburg now
All in all a challenging course and geez I/we had a good time on our first hike together. Looking forward to the one next Wednesday, but between the two of us we will try and do one together every two months.
Tau will be joining on the next one I hope as he has himself a bag now, also about to invest in hiking boots,

Re: A bit of 2x2
Brian I hear you and here's my take, one can go to gym daily and do other sports on a regular basis and still be hiking unfit, and the only way to become hiking fit, is to hike more often, that's my theory. And this is mainly because with hiking you use completely different muscles that you wouldn't normally use with any other sport.
This morning I did my normal 10km before work, and I'm fine - same distnace as the hike on Wednesday
I'm just taking it cautiously now with the running as I picked up a sprained ankle with my last marathon two weeks ago, so I'm actually trying to use the hiking as a way to keep going and not just idle.
My next hike is this coming Wednesday.

When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
Life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers ... what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.
Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!

Great,
But I have 2 questions:
1. Did your truck break down or is diesel just too expensive???
2. How does an ugly bugger like you catch such a lovely girl???

If you are a diesel fan, raise your hand.
If you aren't raising your hand, raise your standards!
