Some Q's about my Fortuner(hope this is the right place)
Hi Guys as you all know i am new here and new to the Toyota family
I recently bought a 2006 4.0l V6 Auto Tuna, i have two questions so far,
1) i have only managed to get it to 5.1k/l this is a bitof town and highway incl, this seems pretty heavy it has been recently serviced, should i take it for a dyna?
2) the extra two seats in the rear, can they be removed completely?
3) ok there's three questions , i have a long range fuel tank fitted not to sure of the size, bought it like this, does the onboard computer calculate for this?
Thanks Guys

1)The 4.0 v6 is heavy however you should get around 7l/l.4tuna wrote:Hi Guys as you all know i am new here and new to the Toyota family

2)Yes, easy, literally 2 bolts 5min and they are out
3)Not regarding the range if both tanks are full. Only once the secondary tank is empty will the gaude drop.
But the l/km will be fairly accurate.
What tyres do you have fitted?

i have the 275/70/16 Bridgestone A/T
Re: Some Q's about my Fortuner(hope this is the right place)
They wil underread slightly, maybee by 1km/l. Try using a GPS for longer trip calculation.4tuna wrote:i have the 275/70/16 Bridgestone A/T

Re: Some Q's about my Fortuner(hope this is the right place)
what i have also noticed is, it's showing i have a range of like 15ks but my fuel gauge is showing just over quarter,
I think i should fill up and see,
Will a dyna help, is it good idea?

The sensor that read's your fuel is still in the primary tank.4tuna wrote:what i have also noticed is, it's showing i have a range of like 15ks but my fuel gauge is showing just over quarter,

Doing a dyno is always good, do you have a chip fitted?

i am not too sure if there is a chip, can i check?
Re: Some Q's about my Fortuner(hope this is the right place)
Yes, if you know where to look but it may be a mission if you do not know exactly where to look.....4tuna wrote:i am not too sure if there is a chip, can i check?
Toyota will also be able to assist, via their computer or someone that can do a dyno.

Re: Some Q's about my Fortuner(hope this is the right place)
Holy smokes, 5km/l is a bit heavy (unless you are enjoying all that power between every set of traffic lights). I am getting anything from 7-8km/l (normal driving) depending on the big-toe and tow a 3m trailer at 6-6.5km/l. As said before, the "range" on the computer will be waaaaayyyy out but the consumption should be quite accurate. The chip is fitted behind the cubbyhole, but if you do not know what you are looking for, you might miss it.
Good luck.

I was told the same...by more than one person..."No chip no tune"...According to one mechanic though your computer's setting may change over the years. I had mine reset to factory settings...that made quite a difference in consumption and it even felt a bit more lively. Did not have it on the dyno unfortunately, so I cant give you figures...Like re-loading your pc at home...

Re: Some Q's about my Fortuner(hope this is the right place)
Ok so i called Toyota around the corner from me, Service Manager was very helpful, he said i could bring my tuna around and he will hook it up to the machine to see where the problem lies,
I should know this afternoon,
If this is injectors that are faulty, do i have a leg to stand on at the dealer i just bought it from, should they repair? or should or can i use my extended warranty that i just took?

Andre, either way, they must repair under warrantee :wink2: That's why you took it not so, or does the contract exclude injectors?4tuna wrote:Ok so i called Toyota around the corner from me, Service Manager was very helpful, he said i could bring my tuna around and he will hook it up to the machine to see where the problem lies,

The Service Manager said i should be on about 8km/l not 5km/l as now

Re: Some Q's about my Fortuner(hope this is the right place)
no outcome, the service manager thought i had a diesel,
But when i started, he said that's pretty much what my consumption is like,
He also checked all that i have are branches and no aftemarket chip(should i get one, will it help?)
if i change the fan to an electric one won't that make a bit of a difference?

Tragic... One would think that he would make sure before offering his help...I saw a picture of your Tuna on another post. See you had some mods done. Bumper, bigger tires etc. those all make a difference in consumption. Looks like you will have to make peace with the fact that your fuel bill is going to be a bit higher that usual.

Re: Some Q's about my Fortuner(hope this is the right place)
Might be your MAF sensor that is dirty....have seen a couple of people have a similar issues on the 4.0 V6 but they also complain about power being down.
You can apparently clean it with surgical spirits but I'm not sure how effective this might be.
On my Gti I could log the airflow that the MAF reads and then determine if it was faulty. I'm not sure if Toyota workshops will know how to test this or even what the standard airflow figure should be
I would not recommend fitting a chip before the problem has been resolved....

If you fitted bigger tyres your odometer will be out in other words you are under eading meaning you have travelled further than what it says. So your fuel consumption is acually better.

Not sure, but you should be able to :)
Try searching on the 4x4community Toyota Forum for more detail as I'm not familiar with the 4.0 MAF setup.

Hi all so i took the MAF sensor out and it was quite dirty, i gave it a couple of squirts using an electrical spray, stuck it back in, my ave consumption went up from 5.9 to 6.4 within 100ks of driving, will let you know if it goes up anymore,
I am getting happier by ea .1 :)
Thanks for the tip :)

so a quick update, filled my tuna, over a grand later, loaded her 5 people and a loaded trailor, i made Ballito no problem and drove most of the time there with the same fuel, i managed to get her to 7.0l/km there and back...
I am quite impressed,
