Revamp of old 1980 4x4 Hilux Bakkie

Post by davauc »

In the early nineties a bought an rusted 1980 Hilus 4x4 fishing bakkie for R6000. I then rebuilt it from the ground up, cut the chassis shorter and moved the mountings to fit a CJ7 jeep kit. This old Hilux then gave me years of pleasure and fun. It has been neglected the last couple of years and been standing outside, but whenever I turned the key it still would start.
Last year I decided that I would again rebuild it from scratch. I replaced the old 18R engine and 4-speed gearbox with a 4Y and 5-speed gearbox. Again I had to change the chassis mounts to accommodate. The bodywork is also not good anymore and needs to be resprayed. I have attached a file with photos to view my progress so far. All brackets and hinges I manufactured myself with stainless steel.

Cannot add more photos.
