Xenon upgrade - better option?

Post by Polarbear2008 »

I have done some research into upgrading the 'lux's lights to xenon, but all the worthwhile info points to 2 things:

The standard lens will not do - the markings on it negatively affect the light path of xennon
and without a projector type lens one is wasting your own time with xennon.

I have come across this link, that seems like it is on the right path, the only problem still is the clear lenses....

Anyone's thoughts in this regard?

Amen brother  I do not have an answer to your problem, if it is a problem....? Are you running standard lamps currently H4's? or the night breakers?

there are Osram Silverstars in at the present time....have not tried nightbreakers as yet.

BTW is there a proper procedure for setting up the headlights?

Hi Theunis

I also have Silverstars on my truck, they make a big difference. I find the Nightbreakers even much more effecient in terms of light output, but they do not last more than 3 months, so I went back the Silverstars.

Osram then made a better version of Nightbreakers, I suppose after recieving lots of complains of lifespan of the original ones, I do not remember what they call the newer ones. Have not tried them either but maybe they could be worthwhile.

I have not yet thought of Xenon upgrade for two reasons:

1. Are the replacement lamps/globes easily and readily available? And if so at how much.
2. Considering the water/river crossing that one does, how will these Xenons react?

Regards.

You can actaully buy the Xenon type lens and make it fit in the Lux. You can also buy replacement headlight units with clear lenses for the Lux.

I believe the new Osram's are called "Day Breakers" .... but I would also rather stick to Silverstar, or even Cool Blue, until they've proved themselves.

Any ideas on where to buy and what prices? For the projectors and the clear lens lights. I have not been able to source the clear lens lights locally - first problem.

The projectors in your photo look good!

Thanks so far!

Dankie

Die boonste ding is die Xenon lens wat mens eintlik moet he wanneer mens Xenon globes gebruik. Daai is nou net 'n after market een in plaas van een wat soos bevoorbeeld in die nuwe Prado se ligte is.

As ek 'n vinnige raaiskoot moet waag sou ek sê daai prys is vir 'n stel. Die rede is hulle praat van headlights

Not sure but it would be quite pretty. It seems to be the same size. Maybe someone else can give some input. Here is the unit and diagram
