Are 4x4 drivers bullies?

Post by Animul »

Ok, I started my new job  but without fuel card  .

As an interim and because I also want to drive a Toyota :) we decided that I will drive 116km a day with my wife's Yaris (giving 17.1km/l :yahoo: ) and she will drive Animul 32km a day to work and back (fuel consumption was 13.4l/100, now its 16l/100).

Every single morning I am bullied by the bigger vehicles on the road and it made me wonder, are all (4x4) drivers like that? Do they bully smaller vehicles unintentionally?

What your opinion?

all NO!!

a high percentage yes!!
the above is from personal experiance!!
from driving my day to day car and bike!!

the worst, and again in my experiance, the Ford guys, with the BT 50s drivers being the worst of that bunch!! and self drive a Ford
again in experiance, Nissan coming a close second

the better ones, the Hilux drivers
again from personal experiance
when I first got me Ford it was very slow, it basically forced me to calm down, coming from a car that had the power to weave and duck and dive between the trafic!!
maybe hilux drivers know what their vehicles and and cant do, and are more layed back/relaced
not sure and not being funny!!

with the Jeep find myself when irritated using the V8 power and getting in and out of traffic, or past idiots, withough being a bully!!

I often find that I have to check myself when encountering 'idiots' (as Fernando put it) .... but let's just call them inconsiderate bastards. I just have to look at the http://www.hilux4x4.co.za" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; sticker on the wind-shield to be reminded that there are more such identifications on the vehicle and that I'm in the public eye .... don't want to let the team down and become one of those bastards myself. ;-)

I just stand my ground against taxis. As a hilux member I also choose to drive considerate of other road users. You are right, there are 4x4 bullies out there, I guess I will stand my ground against them as well. I think also that the 4x4 bullies mostly drive the SUV AWD type of 4x4 vehicles, you know, the ones without low range.

There are kinds of drivers out on the road, some "just drive", a couple drive defensively, and many drive "aggresively".

Now this last group are found in ALL manner of vehicles, from scooters to SMALL cars and even in 4x4's. Now when somebody is an a "large" vehicle and drive aggresively it is seen to be a bully. When somebody drives aggresivly in a platkar he is a called a "pad vark". And when somebody drives aggresively on a scooter he is just being an idiot.

Hell Yea !!!

M2CW

As mentioned by Animul, I suppose most of the time it is more a case of standing my ground. I drive the SFA once a week just to keep the juices going and I would say my driving style is similar to when I drive the Polo but the taxis take way less chances... Love driving the SFA :yahoo:

:alvarin:

Niemand was agter my in vinnige baan.

I find that it is mostly the ones with the 'L' in the number plate on the N1...platkar or SUV and the occupants are usually of the token goverment type it seems...luxury vehicle, knock off sunglasses and designer outfits with white socks.

I make room for them to pass, they're bound to cause trouble and I'd rather let it be waayy in front than right in front...

Me being with Irish blood - YES I am aggro on the road - but only when some BULK-SMS dictates that I must drive below the speed limit [the legal one, not Lobo's  ] and they sit & vrek in the overtake lane [because they don't bother to to move left as the law dictates ..

i'd say not all
unfortunately some are

however, other than the obvious taxis that are bullies, the major bullies are any black vehicle with black tint and with those little lights in the grill or on the dashboard. Those are the worst by far!!!!!

I do find that people quickly get out of the way of my lux though... not that i bully them. they just seem intimidated by The Big Zee... :)

Morning guys, this is a sensitive topic to me. As Sebata says I bully taxis - in fact to be more precise I hate taxis, they are the only ones I bully. I drive the Corolla in the week to work and for errands (and they can do what pleases them around me, it's cool). There's no such luck when I'm in the truck.

I think I'm a safe defensive driver generally, keep to speed limit, bukle up, hands-free kit and am generally helpful on the road - i.e. giving way and so forth.

But geez taxis get to me...
They are rude, careless (even when carrying a full load), inconsiderate, selfish and think they own the road. They have a tendency to stop in the middle of the road, blocking everyone, whilst they exchange loose change or a match for cigarettes - that drives me up the wall. Other times I can control myself and other times not, but I try nonetheless. Nothing is more frustrating than driving angry - not worth it.

But yah... :shock2:

I like to test my brakes in front of them and watch many pairs of eyes grow in my rearview mirror.

Ever wondered what reaction you will get from a taxi driver if he stops in front of you, you switch to low range and push him out of the way???? I have that thought every single day!!!  Luckily I am driving the Yaris during the week, but then again ... I might try that with the Yaris as well. :mocking:

On Wednesday my Jeep went for a service in Sandton and driving to and from Pretoria was a total different experience ... dont know if it is the size, the bumpers or the kickboxing branded stickers but the normal "force myself in front of you coz I dont worry about my taxi" drivers behaved. or rather didn't take chances in front of me ...
