Re: 27 February 2011 GTG - Chloorkop Midrand!!!
All's good, and was a really nice day out, was about time the wheels started turning
All met at the Engen garage.....except Johan Legend 35, who was waiting at the Sasol garage.... Never the less we all managed to follow in convoy to Chloorkop where all the vehicles tyres were deflated ....except Johan Legend 35 More about that later :!:
Everyone quickly greeted and we soon followed Mark (Gunta) down into an unknown road! Heinrich, Evert, Johan and a couple of others quickly had to remove some trees when Heinrich mentioned....my chansaw would have come in handy now...building up a bit of a sweat.
After some obstacles everyone found one another again and drove in one big group
Tummies were growling and Thabo's wife was getting a bit tired of walking around...I think the babba may come a monthe early or so...who knows!
So we all headed for some shade, fires were lit and some chppies and woes was consumed!
Nice turnout, hope to see you all at the the next event
Good suggestion Bulletjie / Gunta Some more pics later...

Thanks guys, Chloorkop is in interesting playing place. Caught many of us out where and how to drive with all the sculpting done by the rain in the past couple of months.

Re: 27 February 2011 GTG - Chloorkop Midrand!!!
Yup, was a quickie, but a nice outing nonetheless. We probably spent more time looking for routes than playing on the obstacles
The 'obstacle of the legendary (35) clutch' was a nasty one, but don't throw away the one next to it..looked far easier than it really was!
Did not manage to get the diff breathers fitted this so I skipped the water (not draining the diffs twice in the same week)

Re: 27 February 2011 GTG - Chloorkop Midrand!!!
My son took lots of pics, so I will load the best ones. We had to make new tracks, so an unexpected hole magically appeared in the grass. Thanks to Heinrich he pulled me out backwards. The next few are of Neil (Bugatti) who got himself caught in a ditch. We hooked my vehicle behing Heinrich and Pulled him out.

Great pictures.
Mark, Nadine can luckily handle the Hilux without problem.
I wish somebody could invent a camera that can really bring across the real intensity of an incline cause it never really captures it that well. For instance looking at Neil's Hilux you do not really appreciate the severity of that position he was in and it certainly does not look as if he was very close to tipping over. But believe me, he nearly stopped my heart and I was not even driving.

Cassie, he was idling up there, he just went of the line and the rear wheel slipped into a hole and nearly toppled over. Some time back a cruizer rolled down there, his windscreen is still at the bottom. All the obsticles were done slowely so as not to damage vehicles or terrain.

Not to worry Mark... I know that hill quite well and I know you can only crawl up there unless you want to break something. I was just pulling Hein's leg as the position he is sitting on that front bumper almost seems like he is jumping.Gunta wrote:Cassie, he was idling up there, he just went of the line and the rear wheel slipped into a hole and nearly toppled over. Some time back a cruizer rolled down there, his windscreen is still at the bottom. All the obsticles were done slowely so as not to damage vehicles or terrain.
Chloorkop can be a real dangerous place. I came to deliver Johan's breather kit yesterday and had to turn around on the main path do to a ditch being dug right across the road. So I turned and put the tailend down an embankment where I know one can go down but I turned a little late and found myself stuck in a very similar situation as Neil did. I called Heinrich on the radio and he was on his way to assist when I gathered some guts and slowly released the brakes (van switched off and in 1st low range) and got out of the bakkie to investigate.
So I saw the ground underfoot was reasonably firm and little damp but had some loose gravel. So I decided I'd try and see what happens. Start the bakkie. Set the idling screw to maintain revs at about 3500 rpm and slowly release the clutch. It slid a bit sideways and then the gearlock kicked in and I got traction straight out. Was a bit nervous after that

Mark, unfortunately Cassie had to go and see to some family responsibilities he had.
Chloorkop gave me a couple of scary moments yesterday "did I say that before" and I was doing most of it yesterday by foot (and nobody drove over the foot either).

Re: 27 February 2011 GTG - Chloorkop Midrand!!!
Good day Ladies and Gents,I trust every one that came to Chloorkop had fun yesterday. Firstly i would like to thank all involved in helping my rocking Hilux, it was greatly appreciated.
Thanks Heinrich for diving in front of my speeding Hilux to slow me down on that (thanks to Casku) on that now extremely steep slope.
Ons het gister baie geniet en dit was lekker om nuwe gesigte te ontmoed.
Lekker week voor vir almal.
