Re: Cutman's 82 Hilux
Selling IT...... NOT LIKELY EVER....... That lux has been part of me since I was 12..... It will be like cutting off your best friend........ HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
As for the yellow colour...... I LOVE IT..... I am just struggeling to get the paint code. I have spoken to quite a few Toyota dealerships and not one could give me the code .... Their explanation was that the Hilux is a direct import from Japan and not assembled in SA. The code from the inside of the engine bay is for the upholstry....... So if anyone on this esteemed site has per chance got the colour codes from Toyota I will be over the moon

Re: Cutman's 82 Hilux
Lourens, all good things come from Klerksdorp! :) Not sure it was Oranje Toyota back in '82, might have still been Leba Motors? Old Man Abel sold the franchise upon his retirement.
That shape Hilux is a sure winner! As much as I love the SFA shape as well, I think this shape is even better and the chassis is as tough as nails. The body work is rigid steel, not a light metal covered in paint as in today's vehicles.
Be proud of her!

Dankie manne....
My plan is om.......
1. die suspensie bietjie te upgrade
(Miskien 'n kompleet upgrade - shocks, suspension bushes en maybe nuwe vere......)
2. Radiator te vervang met 'n aliminuim ene
3. Oilcooler met sandwich adaptor
4. Bucketseats
5. Maybe a paintjob (original 1982 paintjob het 'n paar nicks en scratches)
6. Powersteering
7. Aircon......

Re: Cutman's 82 Hilux
Radiator (Aluminium as per drawing) R4850.00
Oil cooler 25 row R1400.00
Sandwich adapter for V6 R260.00
Electric fan 16" 12v 225w R1635.00
Thermal Switch R395.00
Various other bits and bobs R692.00
Dink julle dis 'n goeie prys? :? :? :?

Re: Cutman's 82 Hilux
The only 2 movie houses were also called Leba IIRC, Leba1 & Leba2...Church street, Lord knows what it is called now, the street I mean. Des Lens ( for the price of a tie one could buy an entire outfit elsewhere ) was on the corner (or was it the next block?) and there used to be a seed shop on the library's side of the Leba's; and part of the mall used to be a bowling club I think, with the other half a pay for parking lot...eish! I sound like my parentsCutman wrote:Hi FD

I was in Grade 2 then....wonder where the name "Leba" came from? Incidently my dad had a 1974 Hilux 1800 in the exact same yellow, with a black & yellow sticker on the chrome bumper with "Leba Motors" on it...Think he paid R1600 for the Hilux brand new

Re: Cutman's 82 Hilux
Leba came form the original owner's surname spelled backwards - "Abel".
I still bought a snazzy suit and pair of shoes from Des-Lens in 1992... still have both, but the suit seems to have shrunk a bit now...
It was a good town in the old days, but the good ol' days are gone forever now. At least they've started re-tarring some streets again, incredible as it sounds

Guess quite a few people used the phrase "there goes the neighborhood" in the last 10 years or so. Legacy of collective accountability & so-called democracy I suppose.Family_Dog wrote:It was a good town in the old days, but the good ol' days are gone forever now. Enjoy the weekend Lourens, and be careful in the CBD, especially in the vicinity of the library, right up to the police station & Western Basaar's.

Het vandag twee brand new Fortuner "bonnet scoops" by 'n pel gekry.....

Turn the scoops around (facing backward) so that they become vents. That way you also won't get water in so easily when driving in the rain.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Hi Daar
