braai

Post by ChrisF »

In April we ended at a camp site without enough braais. Bought one of the small braais at a retail store the next day. This braai is just too large to fit in my setup.

Any ideas for a "fold up braai"?

Either where to buy, or just enough info to build it myself.

Try Outdoor Warehouse; they used to stock a S/Steel one that folded into a box & then you could carry it like suitcase.

4x4 Megaworld Zambesi has something similar, less fancy though; only saw it in the packaging so don't know all the details.

This is quite interesting...... For a couple of months, I was busy developing something simlar on CAD, I'm a.....wait for it...... a sharks supporter and decided to make myself a portable braai...Easy for camping and the once a month 4x4 trail. I looked at braai's at Builder's E, and saw they go easily for 700 bucks, and that's a 0.9mm cheap stainless on bent up round hollow legs....

So decided to use my rugby team as the example...... It's still WIP, so once I sorted out my other family responsibilities, I will jump into action and get it manufactured.......

That's an impressive design, Thomas! ... and I like the adjustable height with the spur rack to lock it.  You could actually do away with the hoop handles on the grid, or make them 'fold down' for more compact packing, as the side handle could double as a carry handle as well. The laser cutting could be personalised, so instead of 'Sharks' one could have 'Hilux' or http://www.hilux4x4.co.za" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or even one's name. What gauge ss sheeting would you use and what is the cost envisaged? Let us know how it works out ... I'm sure there are guys here that would be interested .... I am.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

dieper in

Ismail I have that setup already.

Somehow it wont go down well to make fire on the lawn at a campsite though ...... :)

Right now I am torn between Cassie's braai, or making a round braai that can fit INSIDE my second spare wheel ....
