A friend of mine's hilux's 2.2 has blown a head gasket for the second time now. He has lost faith in that engine and is investigating putting a new one in.
Anyone in Pretoria that can recommend somewhere to go to have this done? He just wants another 2.2 4Y... He got a quote for R7 500 fitted.

Good price!
Probably have to change one of the engine mounts and the starter as well. Just swap out the old ones.

Re: New 2.2 4Y
I saw a brand new Toyota original 4Y engine for sale as Protea Toyota Bellville, CT, for R 14,000.00. That's not bad if you considered what some complete rebuilts cost. I would also use the original engine mounts, the pirate ones usually don't fit properly and need some work to correct.

Regarding enigine mountings, I had to replace pirate mountings twice!! Learned my lesson, got the t-shirt and bought the originals at 5 times the price. No problems anymore!!
