Re: New to the forum
Hi Isak and welcome!
What are your intentions for this vehicle? The fact that you've gone backward in models for an SFA suggests that you want to do more off-road use. If this is true then forget about the performance air filters ... that would be the biggest mistake you could make, the worst sin you could commit against the motor and it won't give you any significant improvement on performance over the original Donaldson filter.
As for the 4Y, they are notoriously slow but they are donkeys and IMO the best motor you could wish to have when overlanding into Africa. Spares are everywhere if you should need. IRO the fuel economy, you should be getting better than that, but you can do an EFI conversion which should up the power and improve the economy as well.
If you want a street racer, well, fit the motor of your choice. A Lexus V8 is'nt a bad alternative but you're not going to gain any fuel economy and you would ideally have to replace the gearbox as well, but the Lexus conversion guys can tell you more about all that.

Re: New to the forum
Welkom Isak,

Re: New to the forum
Staal of aluminium?

In my opinie is EFI meer betroubaar as 'n carb omdat jy dadelik weet as iets fout is.

Welkom hier Isak!
Jy is beslis by die regte plek - 'n man met so baie Lux'e verdien sommer dadelik ere lidmaatskap!
Vir ekstra krag is daar 'n magdom opsies.

If you fit EFI, use a reliable ECU and mount it inside the cab high up on the firewall behind the dash (out of harm's way when doing water crossings). I can't really comment on the golf carb, but there are guys that have done it ... not too sure how successful it is for off-road angles (left / right tilt and incline / descent). You would have to hear from someone that's done it.IVY wrote:Baie dankie vir die inligting.

Fitting magnesium alloy rims for off-road is fine as long as they are suitably rated (sturdy). They are normally lighter than steel rims which reduces the unsprung weight which in turn improves general ride comfort. They have less inherent flex than steel and are generally a lot tougher but more brittle. The only time they will get hurt is if you de-bead a tyre on a rough / rocky surface or if you're running on under inflated tyres and hit an outcrop.
