Do you guys know why some guys turn their intake on their snorkels to the back , my logic reasoning tells me it can influence performance but maybe they know something I don't know.
Can someone explain this to me if possible please!
Thanks

Re: Snorkel Intake
It is in fact easy to see why.....
1. When driving in heavy dust to allow the engine to suck in air rather than having dust forced into the airfilter. Basically reversing or cancelling out the Ram effect. This prevents the air filter from clogging up with dust and chocking the engine.
2. TO prevent water from splashing into the pipe and wetting the airfilter element which will have disasterous consequences when wet paper goes into an engine. This is very apparant in very wet and waterlogged conditions which is rarely seen here.
Also when going trough water at sucha speed to allow water to spalsh into the intake pipe is not advisable as you will suffer possible damage to the radiator, alternator, starter en even wetting the electronics of the engine which will lieav it stranded.

Re: Snorkel Intake
Maak sin in die stowwerige omstandighede, dan pleks van 'n ram-effect op die lig inlaat, kry jy 'n cavitation effek, en die lug behoort baie skoner te wees.

Rudi
This is also done when travelling in close convoy for long distances on gravel roads, obvisousely due to the front vehicles throwing up more dust then would be normally encounted.
Also wonderd what it was for till some 1 told me.

Re: Snorkel Intake
I really would not worry about the ram effect or lack thereof. If you work out how many liters of air your car ingests per minute, you would probably need a half meter wide intake at 60km/h to create enough ram. What your are really looking to do is to get colder and cleaner air into the engine. I would not worry about it facing backward. It just looks k..horrible
