Re: Happy hunting
Shame on you, Piet! .... but what are you doing with a short barrel pump ..... That's like a riot gun ... expecting trouble, do you have that many rats about?
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
Life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers ... what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.
Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!

Re: Happy hunting
Lately theres a couple of rats running around here, and they seem to dodge the peanut butter rat traps, so the shotgon is the next best thing
my shotgun has a long & a short barrel. the short one just looks better

Re: Happy hunting
Yeah, those little buggers are really clever .... and peanut butter is supposed to be irresistible for them. I also found that once a trap had caught one, that same trap would be useless for a couple of weeks or more no matter what bait was used ... like it carried the smell of death. Nowadays I just use 'Finale' (liquid) ..... that sorts them all. I use about ½ a teaspoon mixed into a cup of rice or a cup of wheat grain, divide it up into a few separate dishes and put them out where I know the rats will go, but where there is no chance of my dogs getting to it. Just have to pick up the carcasses a day or two later.

Re: Happy hunting
Works like a charm .... there is one downfall besides making sure that pets or livestock cannot get to it, and that is that sometimes they crawl into inaccessible spaces to die, and there may be a bit of a decaying smell for a day or two if you are unable to find the carcass, but they dry out quickly.

Re: Happy hunting
Finale is for designer city rats - for the hardcore industrial strenght rats you need Racumin! This stuff works wonders and I have yet to find a bugger that will pass it.
It comes in powder(a big box, R800ish) or in smaller gel pack, about R60-80.

Re: Happy hunting
Buy a rat poison that is soluble, mix it with cheap wine like Tassies! Rats do not pass wine! They used to do this on the chicken farms. They placed the spiked wine on the rafters.
