Soon 1UZ to 3UZ

Post by LouisZ »

Soon as I get pricing from Lextreme or Harties we going to change the current 1UZ that unfortunately drowned two years in Scorpions Hilux.

Confirmed sizes of the 1Uz, 2UZ and 3UZ engines in physical size is the same. 2UZ just use a cast iron block so it can be heavier than the other 2.

So just pricing and availability and then patience needed now. :silent:

I also put in a order with lextreme for a 1uz, although they never priced on the 2UZ, the 3UZ was entry level 30K :frustrated: :frustrated:

So these are awesome motors if your budget permits

Ok just received the pricing;

1. 1UZ VVti
a. Wired for Manual gearbox = R16 000
b. Wired for Auto 4 = R16500

2. 3UZ VVTi
a. Wired for manual with 1 UZ Ecu = R25000
b. Wired for 5 speed Auto 1 UZ Ecu = R26500
c. Wired for manual with 3 UZ Ecu = R29 000
d. Wired for 6 speed tip tronic with pedal shift = R39500

Then the fearsome 2UZ :shock2: Complete Engine wired up R40000, here comes the :alvarin: as they have to import if you want from the US another R40 000

Now it will be the 3UZ with its matching Ecu, with a few other extras, Cambelt changed, sparks changed, Powersteering reservoir and bracket with the matching 8 bar fuel pump. Just have to check the sump position.

Almost time.

:shock2:

A 2UZ out of the states will never have as little kms on the clock as the motors out of Japan.

So is the little extra kw and Nm from the 3UZ worth almost double the price of the 1UZ VVTi ...

Yip I agree Theo.

Was not my choice but to say we want the bit more torque that we can get. Still deciding.

Tend to agree with Theo very small difference between power and torque.

I did quite a study on the 1UZ VVTI. Have the cams cut to a 4x4 profiles and you will have more power and usable torque than a 3UZ.

Talk to Mastercams they cut the cams and do the heads . A 230deg @.050 duration with 0.406 lift is an ideal cut for a 4x4.

Just a quick questions on the cams being cut and head done. Would you still opt for the standard management or go another route?

Standard management or what ever you use will not being affected by a cam change or cut. You will only move the power and torque curve up or down the rev range.

Keep in mind the Lexus V8 was designed being used in cars. Vehicle weight and gear ratios plays a vital roll in cam shaft design and profiles.

One of the main drawbacks of the Lexus v8 is that you have a very few aftermarket options available. Modifying a Lexus can give your pocket a very hard knock.

Bit more progress so far.

We decided to go with the 3UZ, its getting prepped as we speak. We keep it std, run it off the OE Ecu to make things simple. Once the engine is in one can look at other things. The Bakkie is standing now for a while so we better start soon.

Over the weekend the old motor will be stripped out, one have to check what the real differences is if the 2 stand next to each other.

This time a better air intake system will be in place.

:surrender:

Ok some time lapses. I collected the 3UZ and offloaded the thing. Its 190kg in weight. :shock2:

But it idles smooth!!! :yahoo:

Its in fact just a 1Uz, very similar. One thing is that the power steering pump reservoir is now separate and on the 1UZ it was on top of the power steering pump. At the moment I still stripping all clean in the engine bay that we start fresh. Old engine already out.

O Yes, I have to take the old petrol pedal assembly out. The rebuilt the new pedal in, no more cable as we used too.

A new airbox in shape will be sourced or build. Ecu will be built into a waterproof box that I place into the engine bay. Well we still.

Roelof sort of. Engine is ready to go into the bakkie again except I am waiting for the poly bushes for the engine mounts. The Ecu still need to be built into a waterproof box that have to get a space in the engine compartment.

Been a while since I posted here. Well Received the new bushes. Timeously placed into position.

Before I started the final placement of the Engine I phone Johann to ask if he will mind if I could cut the front top part off where the bonnet latches. Reason was I wanted so see more clearly how to place the 3UZ. He said it will be ok, he use this Hilux only as a Toy. I assured him I would make the front latch part work again with good place support brackets that will keep things in place again.

With that out of the way I made the cut, then lifted the Big 3UZ into position. One have to be careful not to bump things like the oil filter on the one side and on the other the power steering pump. As I was lowering I realised I would to disconnect the steering rod to steering box. This would make it easier to lower the engine more precise.

To be honest I was more worried of bumping things I did not look at the time. Well just after 3pm on a Sunday it was perfectly in. All Bolts in position as fastened.

I looked and saw 2 points you guys can look at too. This is very wide engine. The oil filter wont fit on the passenger side, well to say the normal one that comes with it. Ok this is the easy part. Go buy a Z87 oil filter, it wider but shorter, this will sort the space needed.

Not so easy is with the current configuration I cant move the engine & gearbox more to the front or to the back. I wont tilt the engine either. The power steering pump pipe is 1 mm from the steering box on the chassis. Eish

Well consider all I will have to see what I work out there... :frustrated: I got something in mind but want to test it 1st.

Die Mounts was wat in was. Is nogals goed gemaak.

So lank laas iets gepost hier.

Sal more iemand stuur dat daar gekyk kan word by Lextreme.

Klink onaards as die ding so kort grom gee. :yahoo: :yahoo:

Die fotos sal volg oor die naweek.

Vordering op Bosbeer.

35 duim bande is op. Engin loop mooi.

Vrydag so 7 km gery.

Ok, I used the Prado 120 Snorkel for this one.

Airflow allowed because the Prado's snorkel is nice and wide and also piping is 76mm from the snorkel to the air box, not the 52mm piping of the OE 4Y. Also you have piping only make 2 120 degree turns. No long pipes and lots of turns.

Picking up a on pipe I saw once at a scrapyard tomorrow morning for in between the snorkel and air box.

To mention, Difference in power shifted from the old 1UZ 3.9lt to the 3UZ 4.3lt

1UZ had more lower down torque at about 1100rpm's, the 3 UZ REaaallly scares you from 1700rpm, then things get rough very fast from 3500rpm's.

The 35 inch tyres don't exist for the engine. A slight pull away from 1st and foot down changing from 1st to 2nd then 3rd is very quick if you still floor it you get to 100km/h fast. Remember its 5 speed OE 4Y Manual gearbox, not Auto.

Most of all the sound the V8 makes is refined, but still bloody nice.
