Bonnet protector

I have installed a bonnet protector on my 2011 diesel hilux and I have read on another forum that they actually hinder the air intake into the intercooler. Just wondering if anyone has any knowledge of this problem??

Saw another guy that simply cut the bonnet protector (in line with the scoop) to allow air flow...then you have at least half a bonnet protector...

What if you have a snorkel? Will that help with the air intake?

A snorkel has nothing to do with the air that cools the intercooler. The bonnet protector deflects the air that has to cool the intercooler. The air that goes through the snorkel, is the air that has to be cooled down by the intercooler before going into the engine. With the bonnet protector you are creating an interheater. Hope that helps...

Thanks guys , very interesting subject, it makes sense, saw the guys test then at Toyota test track. Defnite inflowence to consumption and at high speed los of power / sluggishness.

To recap the air from the snorkel supply the air to the engine intake/ combustion, but the air that flows into the bonnet intake cools the intercooler that cools the intake air, hence the INTERCOOLER, but I think it has a secondary purpose forcing air through the intercooler causing a ventury affect removing HOT engine AIR out of the engine compartment, in the same way as the radiator fan sucking air through radiator fins and blowing over the engine helps this action, out the bottom

Last year on my way home to newcastle from Bathurst my lux went into limp mode after driving at high speed in the heat for a couple of hours, I had to pull over and let it cool down, but an engine warning light stayed on my dash so when I finally got home I disconnected the battery over night and In the morning the warning light had removed itself. I have a steinbauer chip and a 3" exhaust so I wasn't sure if it was the chip that caused the problem or the bonnet protector...

I think it is the chip... Happens with a lot of plug and play units... i dont know the steinbauer chip?

It's the bees knees or diesel chips apparently,
It doesn't play with rail pressure or anything like that "apparently"

Hey Lollie, in regards to that link you refers me to,, I took my prtecyor off and just ran 2 tanks with no change in mileage what so ever, so I think the person who posted that maybe back off the throttle a bit for his test lol
