KZ-TE - ABS light stay on

Post by Donkey »

Once engaged 4x4 low and the ABS light on the dash came on, as it should, no problem. But going back to H2 the light remianed on :frustrated:

So on Thursday, took off all 4 ABS speed sensors and cleaned them, both rear ones were fairly dirty and the front ones not so bad, however the light remains on. (While at it I adjusted the rear brake shoes and the handbrake works lekka again)

Questions:

1. Should I disconnect the main battery to reset the system?
2. What else generally goes wrong?
3. Is the maybe a switch/relay on the transfer case that could have packed up, and if so where exactly does it sit?

So last night I started going through the circuit diagram and noticed that there are 2 ABS ECU's behind the driver side kick panel, do these generally fail?

Donkey

I suggest looking at the circuit that disengages the ABS in LR 4x4.

There must be a switch somewhere on the tranfrer case that is probably just sticky.

I am sure Hoppy can shed some light as he knows hiluxes inside out.

Keep us posted

Disconnected battery on Fri to reset ABS, and it stayed off only for a few mins only to come back on again, so will investigate a bit more.

Hey Tumelo,

I now have the same trouble on my cabby. Did you ever figure out what was wrong on yours?
If you still have blank pages in your passport, it's probably time for a road trip.

Hi Julian, last I took off the 4 sensors and cleaned them, but it still stays on. Honestly been lazy on my part to follow on. I'm suspecting there is a switch on the gearbox that could also be faulty.
