Hi All
I have purchased a new Toyota Innova 2.7 VVTi.
Basically its a Hilux with an MPV body , not SUV.
Chassis and drivetrain is Hilux bar the rear suspension setup.
I am starting with kitting it out and I would like to use it for a bit of my overland travels.
I am looking at fitment of BF Goodrich All Terrain 15 inch tyres as a start and then possiby a lift kit later on.
With my previous Front wheel drive vehicle i have visited Mozambique/Swaziland etc.
I would like to continue with Namibia next year and would be keen on a bit of off road driving ie gravel roads/maybe a small incline etc- obviously not 4x4 territory.
I have access to parts from Hilux models be it engine/diff/electronics etc.
I have compared and found out that the Innova takes the Prado roofracks. So will get those.
Keen on the difflock that the Hilux 2.7 VVTi models come with. Would this be possible on my Toyota Innova ? Or should i have an aftermarket diff lock installed ?
All suggestions welcome.
Thanks..

If the diff is the same, I cannot see how it cannot work, unless there is traction control or such, that may not be present on the Hilux derivative.

I don't think it will be as simple as just bolting in a diff carrier assembly from a Hilux with rear diff lock, as it looks as though the bolt pattern for the diff carrier with and without diff lock is not the same.
It looks as though the rear axle housing is practically the same as that used in the Fortuner, so perhaps you could find a whole rear axle from a smashed Fortuner and swap it into your Innova? Obviously an axle housing from a Hilux won't work, because it goes with the leaf sprung suspension.
Note that the SA spec Innova 2.7 has a final drive ratio of 3.909:1. The only SA spec Fortuners that use the same ratio are the 3.0 D4D Automatic and the recently launched 2.5 D4D versions. The 4.0 V6 and 3.0 D4D manual uses a 3.583:1 ratio, so the gearing might be too tall.
