Car Insurance short duration

Post by pjbp »

I would like to insure my 2013 Hilux for the duration of an upcoming trip for two weeks. After that trip i will store the car in a locked garage.

Any advise appreciated where to insure the Hilux for a short period??

when i bought on of my previous vehicles, i took out insurance on it quickly just to get it covered while I was scouting for better priced options.
Learnt my lesson with my first car.. conquest RSI... one week in my possesion guy jumps red robot :frustrated:

ANyhow, i was referred to Dotsure. At the time it was not a well known Insurance, but I'm sure you all saw the pet insurance ads now :D:

They offered first month free option for first time clients.
Maybe worth a look see... BUT... just read the fine print... maybe there cancellation / signup fees or 2 month notice period... etc. I can't remember..

I sometimes do it when I buy and sell a vehicle. Do the whole insurance thing and after a month or two cancel it. Nobody can tell you that you are not allowed to cancel the insurance after a while.

If you plan to leave the country just make sure your are covered in other countries as well.

Insurance through any broker with any insurer is normally a monthly paid policy, which runs monthly. If by short period you mean less than a month, you might find it difficult to get a new vehicle only policy for a short period. If you have an existing policy, add the vehicle from the required date and have it taken off a week or two later, as per your needs. Depending on circumstances you could pay anything from a partial pro-rata to a full month premium.
