Wiring to loadbin
Hi!
I want to run 16mm cable to the loadbin of my Vigo. It will have a BH plug at the end that I can attach a "power box" to, which I built.
Where is the best place for the wiring to "enter" the loadbin? I thought of the back left side, as it will be easily accessible...
Drilling 2 holes in the loadbin through to where the light (indicators etc) cluster is? My only concern is the clearance between the 16mm wires and the light cluster itself. I am not sure the light cluster will "fit" again?
Does anyone have another option for me or will it work behind the light cluster?
Many thanks!

Re: Wiring to loadbin
I did mine exactly like that ,but that was on a IFS.
Show us a pick of the inside of that box?

Re: Wiring to loadbin
I also did one previously on an IFS (behind the cluster) and it fitted perfectly. I am just concerned as the Vigo's light cluster is bigger...

Re: Wiring to loadbin
I ran mine inside the cab, behind the rear seat and I drilled a hole in the wheel arch. Works great. Ps. I only ran " +" and stole "-" on the chassie at the back. Is it wrong. I do have a fuse close to the battery in front.

Re: Wiring to loadbin
I don't think grounding the "-" on the chassis is wrong at all, I did the same with my IFS, also worked great, no problems. As long as the "+" has a fuse as close to the battery as possible, like you say, that's the most important... unless I am missing something!!koekies wrote:I ran mine inside the cab, behind the rear seat and I drilled a hole in the wheel arch. I am also thinking of installing a "cut-off" switch in the engine compartment when the plug is not in use, just in case there is a rear impact on the vehicle, the last thing you want is a short, although there is a fuse

Re: Wiring to loadbin
I have done my Vigo also. Wire comes out right rear in my case. You can earth on chassis but seeing you are going through all the effort pull negative through as well! Better that way!
Just one thing, why all the fuses in the box. It can be a pain if one blows then you have to open the box every time. Just put one in line fuse in the main cable running into the box. Very easy to inspect and replace. I have blown a couple of fuses (re-inflating my tires as well as other vehicles) especially if you hook your compressor up to the box as I've done.

The fuse at the battery will be a 50A or 100A fuse (National Lunar fuse holder).BenRich wrote:I have done my Vigo also. Wire comes out right rear in my case. You can earth on chassis but seeing you are going through all the effort pull negative through as well! Better that way!

I think it's better to have each circuit protected with it's own rating. I however do agree it'll be easier to check the fuses when they're not concealed, but hopefully the sockets will not exceed their ratings!

Any photo's yet on the completed project?
What pit falls did you encounter? and routing? and would you do anything differently?
Nice pro job on your connection box!!

Hi Quentin, yes, the job is completed!WQN wrote:Any photo's yet on the completed project?

I will load some photos soon! Since doing the wiring on my Lux, I have done the same on Jacque's Lux (Umpalumpa), and I must say that his was a lot easier and quicker as I knew exactly what to do and where to run the wires etc. The connection box shown here is the one I made up for Jacques (thanks for the compliment!) . The only thing I need to do is invest in a decent crimping tool! Other than that, no issues!
My connection box is slightly different (this is when I did the same thing for the IFS I used to have), seen here: viewtopic.php?f=41&t=30685 The wiring for the Vigo also runs behind the rear light cluster, the same as the IFS.

Thanks Samurai
Photo's of the routing (front to back) would be very useful. The link was/is very useful.

Re: Wiring to loadbin
These are the photos I have so far for the wiring done on my Lux. I will add photos of the wiring route, that runs under the vehicle, when I am back in SA.
This wire connects from the positive terminal of the battery to the fuse holder: Wire running from the fuse holder to the loadbin. This wire runs under the vehicle next to the fuel line, past the fuel tank along the chassis (not in this photo, but all the wires are run in that black trunking/sheath/beading or whatever it's called).... ...it comes up behind the left rear light cluster. And through the hole The negative wire is grounded on a bolt that holds the loadbin onto the chassis. Last is the BH plug kept in place with 2 screws

Re: Wiring to loadbin
IMHO its not very good practice to use the body/chassis as a neutral wire that far. Especially for higher current applications.. but it does in fact work.
