Morning all
After recently fitting BFG AT to my 2012 Hilux D4D. I am now looking at fitting wheel spacers from 4x4 direct to give the lux a better stance on the road. can anyone advise with regards to longer bolts and if it will effect anything negatively.
Not clued up on this!!!!
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Wheel spacers
I would think that it would put strain on the wheel bearings?

Re: Wheel spacers
Shorter bolts maybe. As I understand, the bolts come with the spacers .... the spacer is bolted to the hub and the rim bolted to the spacer.
Common sense dictates that it will place extra strain on the wheel bearings, but how much extra is debatable .... the wider the tyre, the less extra strain. Also, there is a margin of design overkill in the determination of the bearing strengths required, so it's not as if the bearings are going to fail soon after fitting ... it will probably just mean that you only get 200,000 km's out of them instead of 230,000 km's.
Except in the case where spacing is needed to clear brake drums and callipers when fitting non-standard size rims, the benefits are mostly aesthetic (the slightly wider track will only marginally improve the roll-over angle).
There are a lot of guys that have done it and are happy with it.

Re: Wheel spacers
Hi all.
Many thanks for the feedback. I would be fitting the 30mm from 4x4 direct and unfortunately cannot go with a bigger/wider tyre than I am already running- same spec as original but just changed to BFs. I enjoy my off-roading but not all too often due to constraints so the bearing problem should not be all too bad.....
Will keep these points in mind.
Thanks

Re: Wheel spacers
Also bear in mind that you will effectively off-set the front wheels from the king-pin positions by the thickness of the spacer. This means that the turning track of the wheel (not turning circle of the vehicle), is wider with the same steering stop settings .... the outer edge of the tyres will require a little more room front and back at full lock. It may be that they touch the inner fender on turns.
