Brakes changed
Hi all
So for the past 4 years I always have a problem getting replacements brake pads. Every time (different places) I end up getting the wrong pads.
This week I decided to replace my pads and once again I received the wrong pads for my D4D.
Now keep in mind this happened a few times the past 4 years so by now I were really irritated. I returned with the used pads and as I laid it on the counter, the Salesman said "that's for a IFS KZTE" immediately.
This is the reason I always get the "wrong" pads because I ask for the D4D pads.
Now my immediate question....why would anyone (previous owner or factory) put a previous generation calipers/break system on a D4D?
Has this happened before to anyone and why?

Re: Brakes changed
Some people do some strange things for different reasons. Are the discs the same size on both vehicles as this would have an impact on your braking.

Re: Brakes changed
I don't know about the discs but the pads are slightly smaller compared to the D4D (just by looks).Froll wrote:Some people do some strange things for different reasons. Are the discs the same size on both vehicles as this would have an impact on your braking.
What I do know is that I ride in my D4D with IFS pads for some reason.

Re: Brakes changed
What year is your D4D? Judging by your avatar it is a 2010+ model? They are fitted with Fortuner brakes, therefore the need to use 16" rims as well. Earlier model Hilux were fitted with smaller brake calipers/rotors, the same as the S/C Hiluxes.. That is where the confusion could have originated..

Re: Brakes changed
My 2006 3.0 D4D 4X4 also takes the smaller pad. The last time they gave me the "fortuner" pads which were the same shape but too big. It came out of the factory with those front calipers.

Re: Brakes changed
If I'm not mistaken, 2005 - 2008 had 15" standard. 2008 - mid 2011 16" and 17" thereafter.

Re: Brakes changed
I think you are correct. I ordered mine in 2005 and took delivery in Jan 2006.
