Frontrunner Roofrack

Post by WayneSchalk »

So with a trip to Bots and Namibia on the way, and with 4 people going, I realised that there is just not enough space without a RR.

I have a set of rails that I got 2nd hand, Frontrunner quoted R450 to fit them. rather them than me.....

and at R450 I think quite a good price

Yip, because if you stuff the roof up it will cost more to repair.

Now the difference is I am not going to put on a frontrunner RR, just the rails, I will get the 4 brackets, but I will be making my own RR out of connect it blocks and aluminum tubing.

Just to understand - That is a Poprivet gun you are talking about, right?

Technically not, A rivnut is sort of a threaded sleave/tube thingy which gets pressed into the hole where you can bolt in a bolt. Pill post a pic now to clarify.

here is the gun, basically the same as a poprivetter. You get an electrical gun looking like tool too.

So the rails is on, I had to buy the brackets that will go between rails and the roof rack, a bit expensive R670 for 4 but I am not going to try and make a bracket, the rail is on the same curve as the roof so to get the rack level and straight will be a challenge.

The spacing brackets have a slot between the two brackets so it's actually not difficult the get the RR level.
