SFA into KZTE

Post by Bushwacker »

I stuffed up the front diff on my IFS, so instead or replacing it with the same thing, I want to go the better way, & change to a SFA. I got good advise from forum members, but I am still confused as to which spares to use.

I want to end up with 33" tyres & a Lexus V8 engin

I have heard that the 2.7 Hilux has the correct diff gear ratio (4.5.5) for this setup, so I use the inner part of the 2.7 (difflock standard) rear diff in both the diffs that I will use in my Hilux.
Will the 2.7's inner fit into my existing rear diff?
What diff must I use as a front diff in my Hilux to fit this 2.7's inner?
Where do I buy these spares at a reasonable price?
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks

BlumTRD het SFA in sy 2.7 gesit - en baie geleer in die proses. dink net hy is dalk nou in Mosambiek.

I have to move my front axle forward by 60mm for the 35" tyres, so the shackles will be 30mm in front of the bodymounts.
I'm concerned that the shackles will bang against the bodymount. Will it be a problem if I move the shackles to the front mount?

Most definitely Piet! That would be a mistake .... the leading end of a leaf pack is always hung and the trailing end is always shackled .... less stress on the mountings and smoother. With the normal set up the wheel actually moves backward a fraction as the spring is depressed, if you invert it the wheel will be forced forward into and against the shock of a bump.

That "body mount" in the pic will definitely be in the way, so why not hang the shackles from underneath the chassis rail like it is on the rear axle, rather than through the chassis rail like the standard SFA front axle.

We just completed an SAS on a Ford Ranger. Hilux diff, with Defender trailing arms. Custom coils and Cruiser shocks. The biggest issue was to get the drag ling, tie rod and panhard rod into the vehicle.

I think all the big jobs are over, still a lot of small things to complete.the lexus engin will follow on tuesday. The underside of the door is 780mm from the floor, & the bottom of the rear rim to the wheel arch is 910mm with the 50mm bodylift, 70mm spacer under the leafsprings, extended shackles & 35" tyres  I still dont have a powersteering box, but I am working on it...

All looking very, very nice so far Piet, but I really don't like that spacing of the rear axle .... you're going to get some serious axle tramp, especially with the V8 ..... I think even a 4Y will tramp with only a 50mm spacer. You should rather consider extended shackles or OME rear leaf packs to raise the back IMO.
