Hilux SFA 7mge conversion with Spitronics

Post by brullocks »

Hi

I always read a lot on this forum but today I need some advice/help.

I have a 1989 Hilux SFA that used to be powered by a toyota 4y, but recently decided to upgrade to something a bit more powerful. So I bought a 7mge engine, from a chap that took it out of a Hilux SFA. This engine came with the Spitronics Saturn ECU.

It starts real easy, and idles without any problem, same goes for the first 100m of driving, but then it starts to miss and run very rough.

The only sensors that came with the engine were a crank pick-up sensor. in the meantime, I installed a water temp sensor for the ECU as well as a MAP sensor. The driveability did improve after the installation of the MAP sensor, but when I connect the water temp sensor it sputters alot when trying to gain rpm.

Please any help would be appreciated!

Hi Jaco, welcome to the forum!

There were many posts some years back on exactly this combination, I hope a search turns something useful up for you.
