Portuguese Hilux SFA 1994

Post by Ruanez »

Hello guys,
Im André, from Portugal, and want to show you my 1994 Hilux SFA :D
Im going to show you the mods on it and some pictures aswell :D

So, it's the little 2.4diesel engine, 55kw of power, not too much but leads the way ;)

So here is some pics when I bought it :D Still a virgin with 200.000kms on the clock :D

Image

After, got some spare tyres from my Nissan Patrol GR, and think to fit it on the Yota, looks so good, after that, it's been driven with those set of tyres :D

The suspension is stock, and with the 33x12.5R15 tyres the rubber bites the steel just on the lowest corner of the body :( Still need an advice to get this fixed...

Here it is :D

Let me know what do you think of that guys! :D

Want one of steel original rear bed for it, but can't really get one here in Portugal :(
Anyone know what's the best place to search for it?

Cheers

Hi and welcome Andre'

These vehicles are getting pretty old now and part sourcing is becoming difficult, especially body parts. Not sure where you can get an original load bin but you could put out some feelers to scrapyards in your area and surrounding countries. Otherwise you could modify the tray back or even build a camper canopy, there are some threads on theis site where some guys have gone that route.

To stop the wheels from scraping, you would need to shift the axle forward by 30mm and lift the suspension a little. There are a lot of topics covering this on the forum, just do a search. :winkx:

thanks :D

I'll try to, but moving forward the entire axle will need to modify the drag link and the transmisson propeler right? Just lifting cant do the job?

About the rear bed... im trying for ages, but not lucky... not even in the UK :/

You would have to lift it dramatically which then impacts significantly on stability when the COG is raised so high. You would also encounter problems with the front drive shaft length as well as the operating angles of the universals. Additionally the torque rod, draglink and steering rod lengths are also affected. Brake line hoses would have to be lengthened as well and longer shock-absorbers fitted. Becomes too impractical overall.

Yes, moving the axle forward (by 30mm) means modifying the draglink, steering rod and torque rod lengths, as you would with an extreme lift, but the drive shaft can accommodate that easily enough in the slip-joint and the operating angles of the universals are actually marginally improved. It's the better option, safer and less modification / less expense.
