Dual Battery Options Hilux 2020

Post by Robboza »

HI All,

I am looking into options/pro’s and cons on how to instal a dual battery system and seeking advise
I have one in my old 2011 Hilux which my bro in law will be taking over. Hence i need to replace.
Will be installing in my new 2020 Hilux.
What purpose ? general camping to run a CFX50 litre Waeco Fridge Freezer etc. Will Also connect a Solar panel to it.

1) Pro’s and/Cons of fixed instalation vs removable ? (Previously had a fixed installation and seemed to work fine)
2) Any suggestions on who to use for the installation ? I have received a quote from R&D Offroad already. Any other service providers you can suggest so i can obtain another quote ?

Your valuable insight would be much appreciated gents :D: !

Regards
Rob

One negative of having the battery near the engine is that it gets really hot in summer. Not good for the battery. Many DC-DC chargers also stop charging over 50 degrees.
Fitting it in the back should be cooler.

The easiest option is solonoid (eg. National Luna). Fit it near engine, run cables to back (add inline fuse) to the battery. Connect solar to the battery as extra charge. Fridge draws from battery.
More advanced option is DC to DC charger. But also more expensive.
