Windscreen Wiper Motor

Post by WayneMan »

Hi

The windscreen wiper motor stops working intermittently when it rains on my Legend 35 KZ-TE hilux. Do you think it is the motor that is faulty or an electrical problem like a faulty relay?
If u wiggle the wiper blade it sometime starts working again and then stops a short while later.
Can I buy a new motor from a Midas or similar shop. Or should I rather be looking for a 2nd hand motor from a scap yard?
Are the wiper motors the same for the petrol and diesel models ?

Doubt that i's the motor itself. More like a bad joint on the motor or the relay. I'm leaning towards a bad connection in the motor itself. Might be a good idea to take it out, clean it up and check the connections between the "fingers" and the copper strips on the wheel (inside the motor cover on the "gearbox" side).

Thanks MD
I was thinking of doing exactly that - stripping the motor and see if there is something a fault.

Usually it's a poor contact on those fingers. You'll see when you open up. :winkx:

So i stripped the plug connectors only this evening. They were very dirty.
I tested briefly this evening in the garage and they seem to work, but I need to go driving in the rain to test it thoroughly. Hoping it rains tmrw, then I can drive the Lux.
