Hilux Revo - Released in Thailand

Post by CasKru »

It was released in Thailand today:

The country’s best-selling pickup gets all-new design, bigger body, more economical powertrains, car-like interior, more safety features and a new moniker.

Toyota has staged the world premiere of its eight-generation Hilux in Thailand today after selling its direct predecessor for 11 years.

Developed as a replacement for the Hilux Vigo, the Hilux Revo gets a new diesel engine family under the GD code. The two four-cylinder motors highlight more low-end torque and efficiency rather than outright power when compared to its predecessors.

The 2.4-litre version produces 150hp and 343Nm, while the 2.8-litre variant generates 177hp and 420Nm.

There’s also a petrol version, which is an upgraded version of the 2.7-litre four-cylinder now featuring dual variable valve-timing control. Outputs are rated at 166hp and 245Nm.

There are options of six-speed manual or automatic gearbox, 2WD or 4WD and standard, extra or double cab.

The use of the upgraded transmissions (from the previous five-speeders) and automatic stop/start system is claimed to improve fuel economy by 10%

Toyota says the chassis has been stiffened up by 20%, while the wider dimensions of the vehicle help for increased grip and better cornering ability.

The Revo’s has an overall length of 5,335mm (up by 90mm), width of 1,855mm (up by 95mm), height of 1,820mm (up by 85mm) and an unchanged wheelbase of 3,085mm.

Toyota has developed three types of suspension settings for the Revo including standard, heavy duty and comfort. The latest setup has been chosen for the Revo’s launch in Thailand.

In a bid to attract more buyers to it workhorse vehicle, Toyota has given the Revo more car-like exterior and interior design cues aping those of the Corolla compact saloon.

The front end of the Revo is emphasised with projector-type head lamps with LED daytime-running lights.

Inside, there’s a 4.2-inch multi-information display, 7-inch touchscreen to operate the audio and navigation systems and a steering wheel that adjusts for both reach and height.

Depending on model and grade, safety features includes rear-view parking camera, traction and stability control and front, side and head airbags.

Prices for the standard body range from 569,000-675,000 baht, extra cab from 619,000-899,000 baht and double cab from 725,000 to 1.139 million baht.

Nice...

Here is an article from Australia also about this.
http://www.caradvice.com.au/355443/2016 ... australia/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It says that they dont show the interior because the Aussie en Thai interiors wont be the same, so maybe we shouldnt get too hung up on the interior pics we see, as we will be getting the Aussie spec vehicles here. Or so I hope, because the Thai spec vehicles only have a 2.7VVTi petrol option while the Aussie spec has the 4.0 V6 option as well...

Some nice pics there... the brightwork is purely cosmetic, but it has been for a long time...

Let's see when it arrives in the "flesh"... why do we have to wait so long?

Nah, I am not too worried about the 4x4 lever being replaced with buttons...  With the Vigo the hub locks were also replaced by hydraulic/hocus pocus magic automatic locking stuff, and they didnt break a lot now did they? It is called progress... 100 years ago it would have been powered by steam... or maybe a horse or 2... now it has a sophisticated electronically managed diesel engine... Only problem with the buttons is that there is no more handbag hook on the left hand side...

"World-first (for a pick-up) – Intelligent Manual Transmission or i-MT supports smooth shifting with rev matching technology."

Interesant!

In terms of the modern engines those figures are still on the conservative side. Aftermarket Chip manufacturers claim those and better figures on the current 3lt D4D. The new motor is only 200ccs smaller. I would rather have that power from an engine that was designed with those outputs from the beginning.
