Hilux 2.5 D4D SRX

Post by WayneSchalk »

I am looking at getting one of these, its the 2013 2.5 D4D Xtra Cab SRX

I took it for a test drive and was surprised at how well it drives, I know it looks a bit funny being the "low rider" but it will do.

Can anyone give me some feedback on the fuel usage? I have searched and see it is between 10 to 12 km/l.

Kry 11,7Km/l met my 4x4 SRX. Behoort nou selfs beter te wees vandat ek die "limp" probleem opgelos het.

the "old" D-4D 2,5 motor or the new one with the intercooler ??

the old one is more realistic at 10km/l with a low level canopy. 9km/l if you go for a high canopy ....

Id like to just get my hands on it first of all. You know when I go car shopping I like to do the deal in no more than 3 days. But SWAMBO has to do the work here, and she is much more patient then I am :alvarin:

The "2KD-FTV Hi" is the same original 2.5 engine as the Hilux came out with in 2005. It was available in SRX form only. Later came out in DC Raider spec but still with 75kW motor. 2011 or thereabouts the DC Raider and Fortuner came out with the upgraded "2KD-FTV (VNT)" motor with its Variable Vane Turbo (gotta love the fancy terminology). Although both versions essentially had Turbos, the VNT was uprated and well, "Higher" than the "Hi" I suppose.

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with the 75kW 2.5 motor and there are thousands out there running with 500 000km and a lot more on the clock. You can beat that engine with a brick and it will not break! Just think how many long distance taxis, city taxis and delivery vehicles are running hundreds of kilos daily. It is so under-stressed it barely wears.

The newer 106kW motor is a touch lighter on juice but it might be due to gearing too- I don't know, I haven't checked gearing specs yet. I doubt the 75kWatter will be too far off 10km/l though.

You are sure to have plenty hundred thousands of happy miles!

Thank You Christian

I got the van, and I like it!!!

Just have to go through the nasty bit and fight with Toyota, they gave me a spare that to me is not road legal, the thread is just about off. Their response was that the bakkie passed the roadworthy test with it and that is what I get :silent:

In 50 000km with my 2,5 I averaged between 8 and 9,5 km/l - this with a HIGH canopy, and permanent load of 500kg in the back.

That spare is not legal. Its the same depth as the marker indicating legal thread depth. Take the spare off and let them put a new tyre on.
