Water in the passenger foot well - Problem Solved!

Post by Cleaner »

Hi Guys

I need some advice from you - I have recently noticed that there is constantly water in the passenger side foot well in my 2006 Hilux Vigo.

Now the very first thought was condensation from the aircon - this I can also substantiate with the fact that I have stopped noticing the normal water under the truck when I have parked somewhere. Can it be anything else? Where else can water inside the CAB come from? And the water is there regardless if it rained or not!

Question - Where do I start searching for this, and what can be blocked that the water is now dripping on the inside of the vehicle? Have anybody stripped the aircon on a Vigo to see where the overflow channels would run? I have also noticed a noise like a fan scraping inside the CAB when the aircon is on and I take a corner to the right. Might be unrelated.

Would you advice a seek the service of an aircon shop or should I attempt to look for the fault myself?

Thanks!

Ernst, I do not have such an experience myself, but as you say the water has stopped dripping from the underneath pipe when aircon is on, could be blocked with mud or something, my worry is if you leave it for too long some other internal part may start to rust, maybe someone has a clue. Good luck

Start looking at the heater system. The heater radiator is inside and it have pipes running to it. Can be a pipe if you lucky.

Hi,

Your aircon drain pipe leading from the heater box is blocked. Remove the pipe at the box and clean with a thin wire - inside the box. Follow the pipe from the engine bay and into the cab - underneath the carpet.

Thank you for all the responses! I thought it might be something like that! I will attempt to get to the filters and pipes and see if I can clean it, but I am much better at making my truck dirty than taking it apart and clean it!

When I do attempt it, I will take pictures! Cause it might be helpful to someone else and it sure as hell is going to be funny!

You should look at this with some urgency as water in and around the heater assembly that does not drain properly will cause damage to other electrickery like the fan blower.

Water in the passenger foot well - Problem Sorted!

Post by Cleaner »

Okay - Update - It took me a total of 15 min to sort this issue out - after driving around with constant water in the passenger side foot well for 2 months!

Here is the deal -

In the passenger side foot well, on the right hand side, right in the far back, almost behind the center console, there is a drain pipe from the air-con condensation reservoir. it is underneath the carpet and you need to pull the corner of the carpet back to get to it.

This drain pipe goes through the firewall/floorboard and is fitted with a rubber grommet.

I pulled the pipe back through the grommet and pushed on it to feel for any blockages in the pipe. Found none. Next I stuck a cable tie all the way up the pipe to the point where it should go into the air-con condensation reservoir. still no blockage. Lastly I pulled the pipe out at the reservoir and at this stage a little water came seeping out the hole. I could also feel a blockage right at the mouth of the hole. The moment I touched it, it dislodged and water started coming out!

Bingo! Stuck the pipe back in and this very dirty filthy water came out - Notice at this point - Have something available to catch the water when you have found the blockage!

The water kept on seeping out. A short blow into the drainage pipe and I could hear it bubble in the reservoir tank. The water then came through strong and I managed to drain it all into a bucket (see picture). Right! Problem solved for now!

Blockage is cleared for the time being! I will when I have time, take the reservoir tank of and clean it properly!

A quick search on Google gave me the info I needed and more can be found here -

It seems to be a common problem on Toyota's.
