Alu Cab with Connect It
Have anyone used the Connect it aluminium connectors to build something http://www.connect-it.cc/
I am contemplating to build a canopy with it.I realise that welding would probably be stronger, but with the connect it I can maybe do it myself. My main concerne is obviously strenght. it needs to carry a RTT :problem: I see there is even a dude that build a caravan from it http://www.connect-it.cc/gallery.html.My thoughts are that the alu plate will provide extra strength keeping everything together.

Soos 'n Alu raam?

Re: Alu Cab with Connect It

PM my as jy die details soek

Have look at the Alu Flex profiles...could be handy to hook a canvas like on a tonnau cover..

Re: Alu Cab with Connect It
Yip George but those degrees wont help you much, they too sharp. You need about 24 to 27 degrees for the side of the canopy if I remember correctly... :) :)

Re: Alu Cab with Connect It
Very handy ... I've seen them used before. They look quite sturdy for what they are, a plastic connector ... the chequer plate side should hold it together nicely, just wonder how well they will last (age and fatigue).

That is my concern also, especially on badly corrugated roads, and with the weight of a RTT or even a roofrack on top.Mud Dog wrote:just wonder how well they will last (age and fatigue).

Then maybe you should give it a try (be the Guinea pig), and who knows, we might all be pleasantly surprised.

Re: Alu Cab with Connect It
I suppose that if you secure the side plates well which then doesn't allow any movement, the connectors cannot 'fatigue'. I have no doubt it will work well (they're very neat connectors), it's just what happens over time ... flexing and the like, that gets me wondering.
