Engin broken, 3 months away from payed up

Post by Mr H »

:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
Hi all, will not say prosperous new year
Need all your advise please.
Just 3 months away from paying up my bakkie, they say my toy has hit bearings. I have removed all the pullys/belts to check but that knock sound still there? Is this bearings? From a engine that never went over 140, never over heated and I never thrashed the engine when cold, got EMS(madman) what could have caused this and what do I do now? Don't have the cash now for anything. Will start saving but for what, new engine, other engine KZTE/Lexus or trade her in? As you can see by my writing I'm a bit rattled. Whats all this going to cost me?
Thanx

should of gotten a Ford!!!! :laugh2: :laugh2:

sorry!! could not resist!!

until a motor is stripped down its difficult to say what exactly it is till one can hear it!!

then, have a few question!! is this a day to day vehicle or only a weekend/go away/toy vehicle!!

if its a every day car, the issue!! as it difficult to be with out transport or to be one car down in the family!!
if it just a weekend vehicle then it can stand a while, while a plan gets made!!

sell??
IMO would say NO!! specially if the vehicle is in great condition, and sounds like you dont abuse the vehicle!!

from there on, all depends on what you would like the vehicle to be!!
as for converting, at the beginning like any thing, it was expensive and there were issues, as time goes on its become cheaper and easier as one is no longer reinventing the wheel, as its been done many times over and over!!
doing it self or having it done will determine a huge difference in price!!
this week again while picking up some break pads for the Jeep, had a chat to the shop owner, about my lexus project, and he also knows of people who have done it and are happy!!
there are other motors that can also go on there, and will leave that for others to comment on!!

again all depends on what you wish to do with the vehicle going forward!!

good luck!! :beach: :beach:

dont for get the Ford V6!! :lmao:

Sorry to hear of your woes, Henry! :( From your writings I assume we are talking about a KZTE motor here .... what mileage has it done?

The aftermarket turbos are bad news for the 3000D engine, but they would usually cause the head gasket to blow possibly causing damage to the head as well, but not bearings.

But this is the 3000D F_D... did the 300D & 3000D with aftermarket turbos suffer the same fate?

AFAIK the 3000D was the Hiluxes least successful motor. If heard of other guys complaining but not on this forum

This vehicle has 202000km on the clock,it is used daily but I have a other vehicle to go to work with. No use putting in the same engine it's got in now.TV2/engine den/Jap motors are selling them for R17000, then I'm going to sit with the/a donkey again. This toyota has left a bad taste in my mouth. Nothing else to say for tonight.

JMO!!
if you going to replace the vehicle with the current sentiment then me would say Ford/Mazda
their new bakkies are out or just about to be released!!
3.2 TD 475Nm

however that would mean the restart of a new payment all over again!! for 4 or 5 years!!
then I'm going to sit with the/a donkey again
the other option would be a lexus V8 conversion!! as it sounds like the only issue you have is the engine!!!
however, if doing it yourself then one would look at a total cost of about double what you would pay for a replacement for the current engine!!

good luck!! :beach:

But if going this route, bigger is not always better. Maybe opt for the 3L Lexus motor instead of the 4L or 4.2L

Henry,

If you want to build your own motor, I have a KZ block, basically a complete bottom end.

Be careful the KZ does not like to rev. The 3000td has 4.875 diff ratio and was not meant for a turbo. The cost of a KZ is also not cheap, why dont you put in a 2.7 petrol motor or a 7mge?

Hi Henry,

AFAIK someone did the transplant about a year ago. Easiest is to use the 5L pump and match that to the KZ motor. As Mark said, the 5L has a 4.875 ratio and the Kz a 3.737, if memory serves. Could it be that low?

Anyway you look at it, you are gonna cough up a few bob.

Heard a Hilux with a Ford v6 yesterday...

Hello. I have a new crank still in the box for the 5L motor and a few other engine spares. The 3L and 5L engines parts or mostly the same. I have both those engines. Toss the turbo and run natural till you get your v8 one day or something. Let me know if you need anything, maybe I can help.

I have had mixed suggestions about the chucking the turbo might/will chuck it out, some guys say keep the turbo just turn down the boost, but then would it not pull the same as it has no turbo anyway?
I can't wait for Chris with my crank.

Henry I had a 3000D standard and yes, What a donkey. I wanted to put in a turbo and the overwhelming reaction was NOOO. If you want to keep the turbo, you will have to turn down the boost.
