Darn it, that weekend clashes with a Wedding (A lekker Greek affair too) a Child's Birthday Party (what's new), Creche Duty at the Church ( )and a Braai with an old mate who I haven't seen in nearly 10 years  - average weekend for me lately

OK, I got the permission from the land owner (again) to camp on the farm. He says that actually nobody are allowed to camp in the farm but he will allow us to do so for this weekend.

He also said that he has one condition and that is that we are no allowed into the dune area at all and we are not allowed to drive on the farm where their ain't any tracks (obviously)

He also said he give us permission to break down the structures which means that those who need poles and stuff for the gardens can join in the fun.

There's a very long 'trailer' at the start of my son's 'Bee Movie'... I think it's the trailer of 'Mr Incredible'... should I bring it along?

NEEM ALTYD EKSTRA SWARTSAKKE SAAM. Julle moet die naweek gaan geniet. Ek sien uit na Boegoeberg. 9 APRIL ONTHOU, ONE MOET DAARDIE NAWEEK VOLMAAK !! EK SOEK 15 VOERTUIE . Groete

Shaakir I hoped that you would join us at Trekos, somebody have to catch fish for the evening's braai. The trailer do not have to have big wheels, most of the places a normal car can drive. Does it have sides or is it totally flat. I need 2 trailers, one for the non-recyclable goods and one for recyclable goods. I will know tomorrow if I can get one and your dads would be wonderful if we can get it.

I went to Trekos today and it seemed as if somebody started some cleaning and fixing. This gave me hope as we will be able to do far more than I initially thought.

Besides cleaning I also want us to pack rocks to close some of the roads. Over the years people just drove where they wanted and that resulted in 3 or 4 roads leading the same way. I saw today that somebody else started it and we can continue where they stopped.
Image

Niel was concerned about removing of structures. After today I decided that we will remove structures which was taken down halfway and those badly neglected, but those that looks as if they are still being use we will leave. I do not want to create conflict. Although those structures are there illegally I think it is a fight the owner of the land must fight with those people.
Image

There are loads of shading net laying around which we will have to remove

Image

And then of course the rubbish. To me the rubbish is first priority. Somebody did pick up the stuff some time ago but just piled it on heaps. Now the wind is blowing it all over the place.

Image
Can you imagine that it was "civilized" people who created this mess?

Anyway. Of the old camps there are two where there are still long drop toilets available. I think it would be sensible to stay at one of the two. I think going without a shower is OK for most people but the biggest objection I normally hear, especially from the ladies, is the toilet thing. The bay where I would love to camp do not have any toilets anymore.

Remember that you must take your own water, food and shelter. My wife will be joining us so if you want to bring your wife with she is welcome to join.

I would appreciate if each vehicle can bring some black bags. I will buy 40 bags but extra might help just in case we need more.
Each person must take some gloves, those garden gloves will be fine. There are broken bottles and sometimes in the heaps of rubbish we have to pick up there might be nasty surprise like an old nappy or so.

If you have a spade, bring it with en miskien 'n pik ook. I have one or two bow saws and will bring it with. It seems as if some of the poles have been cemented to the ground, I think easiest would be to just cut them off just above the ground.

Food and drinks each person can cater for his crowd.
I would rather bring firewood for the crowd because if I do not do it Niel might bring us some wet Rooikrans and I really do not feel like raw smoked fish.

I am not sure what the weather will be like. This weekend we had a super hot Saturday, it was a beautiful day with not much wind. Today the wind was blowing like might. Remember to bring warm clothes because it normally becomes a bit chilly in the evenings.

Bring sunblock and a hat, the sun is poisonous.

I would love to stay there on Friday evening as well, but we have this Art Gallery opening in Piketberg in Friday night which were invited to and we just have to attend. But I will be at Trekos from 07h00 on Saturday morning. I have VHF radio in the bakkie (sorry trokkie) and will also take the hand radio. There are cell phone reception at some places, so give me a call if you are lost. Those who would like to camp on Friday as well, I am going to ask Mr Wiehan to write me a formal letter to give us permission to camp there. As soon as I get it I can email you one if you need one.

For those who do not know where Trekoskraal is: You drive out of Vredenburg towards Paternoster. After you left Vredenburg you take the first gravel road to the left. There is a Trekoskraal sign. I think it is about 5km out of town.

You just follow the gravel road until it comes to a farm gate, enter the gate and you are in Trekoskraal. After the gate turn left immediately. You will see one small road to the right, pass that one. The second road to the right is a big road, turn right there. Follow that until you get to the sea. This is where we will start cleaning and we will work our way from there all along the coast. So you can find us there.

Any Questions, enige vrae?

OK, I draw a little picture for the Trekos setup since Niel thinks I explain like a lady and he does not believe me that there is a first small road going to the right about 50 metres after you entered the gate.

To get to Trekos is very easy. You leave Cape Town on the R27 pass blouberg and all those lekker places.
Follow the road for an odd 100km or so and pass the Engen garage on your left. You will go over a bridge later on and just after the bridge there is a big crossing where you turn LEFT towards Vredenburg on the R45. Follow the road, drive straight through Vredenburg towards Paternoster and do not run off anywhere. After you left Vredenburg, the very first gravel road to the left will show Trekoskraal, turn left here and follow the road until it walks dead in a gate. From there follow the directions on the map below. If you come on Friday, go to where I indicated the camping site, if you come on Saturday go to where I indicated the cleaning spot start.

Remember you must bring your own water, either a spade or porta potty, food, drinks, hat, sunblock, gloves, black bags and whatever.

The fisherman around here tells me its gona be spring tide this weekend but apparently Saturday is gonna be a marvelous day. So the weather will be fine but the sun is going to hit you if you are not used to it.

Will have fun as well, Niel promised he will have breakfast ready for me at 07h00. After that we will start cleaning, take a break for lunch and in the end I want to finish at about 4 or 5 and from there we will just braai, relax and kuier. On Sunday I do not plan any work, we will have breakfast and whenever you are ready to leave you go home.

If you want to you can PM me your cell number and email address and I will then circulate a list with everybody's cell numbers and email addresses on Friday morning.

Gee hom maar grief, maar hy het my goeie afslag gegee. Hy verhuur hom gewoonlik vir R400 per dag, ek gaan R300 betaal van Vrydag-middag tot Maandag-middag, so ek is tevrede.

Hier in Klerkies is dit R100 per trailer per dag! ;) Baie beter rates. Ek moes twee huur om al my meubels uit die River Cottage te gaan haal, en oor twee weke of so moet ek dit weer doen om hulle terug te vat. El voel nou bietjie beter dat ek 'n paar rande so spaar...

This is a HUGE trailer, it is a double axle thing that can take 2 tons and I am sure I will be able to park my bakkie on it, and it have sides.

Daniel jy sal maar die hemp moet kom haal, maar ek dink daar is nog net smalls oor, sal dit pas.

Bretton if I am not mistaken it is not the first time your trokkie's steering is the excuse? Did you fit a Isuzu steering rack in the Hilux or what?

Shaakir, did you hear anything about your father's trailer?

I would like to thank Niel and Theunis (Polarbear2008) for the help this weekend.
Thanks Ian and Wendy for dropping in and showing your faces, it was nice to meet another two forum members. Thanks Cobus who joined us for the braai afterwards. O ja, and Ian and Cobus thank you for keeping Niel under control.

The weekend:
Niel and Theunis camped at Trekoskraal on Friday evening. I joined them early on Saturday morning.
There was a lot of rubbish to clean up. We focused mostly on loose items like bottles and bags. Although we did take done some small structures it was not heigh on the agenda. We will do that next time we go there.
Image
Image
Image
Image
As I said we also took down some of the structures
Image
Some of us really worked very hard.
Image
Here we see the powerful KZ-TE in action
Image
Image
Image
At the end of the day we filled the trailer.
Image
Then we set up camp
Image

Image
The the unfurtunate event happened where Cobus and Ian had to jump in to help. Niel had this Blue Bull flag on his bakkie en when somebody tried to remove it Niel tried to stop them.

Well done guys! That is quite a load of trash you collected there. What a pity about those who spoil it for others, that looks like such a beautiful place to be.

And.... I think all of us were supporting the Bulls yesterday! At one stage I thought they had lost it, but they bounced back. Morne Steyn for Prez!!
