worse nightmare

Post by michael01 »

Can across this on the Honeydew Toyota RV website, well done to the Toyota guys another reason why i support the brand......

Oh and moral of the story???? Never Ever underestimate flowing water!!!!!!!

Here is what was said and do yourself a favor clink on the link and look at the photos

On the 11th May, my customer, Marco Ravetto watched in horror as his wife and daughter, driving in their 100VX Toyota Cruiser were washed off the low water bridge at the Platjan Boarder Post. They managed to get out safely but unfortunately the Cruiser was washed downstream.

We were informed about the mishap when Prof Marco brought his 80 Series in for some accessories. We were surprised to hear that nobody was keen to do such a recovery (possibly because of the Crocodiles that made the Land Cruiser his new sunning bed).

Our recovery team included : Graeme Calder, Kurt Honicke, Andre Breytenbach, Alex Gasser & Bruce Hall

We decided to jump at the opportunity, both as a weekend away and to not let our friends and customers down. We arranged to be in Botswana on the 16th October 2010. Prof. Marco sent some photos so we could make plans to get the Cruiser onto dry land again. Unfortunately what we assumed would be a short 15-metre pull turned out to be a long 50-metre recovery.

We went through the Boarder by about 7.30 and went to find the Land Cruiser. After a few minutes of hard thinking and quick planning, consensus was reached. Some guys starting leveling the river bank, others cutting down trees to get as close as was safely possible. Andre and I organized straps and got Alex’s cage ready (to keep the Croc’s away). Once we got going, a few plan changes and position shifts. The Cruiser was making good progress towards the river-bank. Our Warn M8000 was showing what it was made of and only why Warn has the reputation it does. The winch worked perfectly but needed a little help from Graemes’ 9500 T-Max to get the Cruiser into the clear. All in all a good recovery with good products and great people. Thanks to our suppliers Warn (Control Instruments) and Custom Lifting Equipment.

Well it's not salt water, so I suppose it can be stripped, cleaned and rebuilt, replacing anything that needs to be replaced.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
