Trying to make own compressor hose, need some help
Hi All,
I bought a Hilux with a Arb compressor, but didn't come with the hose attachment used to pump up the tires. I wanted make my own hose, but was at Builders warehouse looking at the hoses available there. They had two different ones, with the same pressure ratings but different diameters.
What pressure rating hose should i get ? and what diameter ?
Thanks

Re: Trying to make own compressor hose, need some help
The ARB compressor cuts out at 7bar, so I'd say a hose with a 10 bar rating. We use Festo pipe with about the same rating in factories which usually has a plant pressure of 5-7bar.
An 8mm hose(ID) should be sufficient for your needs.

HI Greenhorn,
We discussed some compressor topics here:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=289
It is important to ensure the hoses etc are also not affected by temperature, someone mentioned they had problems with heat affecting the hose directly after the compressor.

Re: Trying to make own compressor hose, need some help
I made a remote manifold mount with a pressure guage and a blow down valve (I fitted and extra 2.5l accumulator tank)
On this I then connected my quick coupler.
I used Festo pipe for the connections, and then bought Compressor pipe and fittings from the local Hardware store. 10 bar as Barto said.

This is the hose I use. I just cut it and added a valve and pressure gauge. I use it to inflate and deflate my tyres.

Hi Sifu-Lux
That looks great, could you post the items you used to build your compressor hose.

Eish! would like to, but I can't find the invoice.
Just go to your local Hardware/Automotive paint supplier store. They usually sell all the spraypainting pneumatic fittings and pipe.
You need:
6 meters of 10 bar rated compressed air hose. (I think 8mm ID)
1 x Stop cock 1/4 inch valve (will have two female ends)
1 x 1/4 inch female T-piece
1 x 1/4 inch double ended nipple to join the T-piece to the valve
2 x 1/4 inch male connectors to connect to the hose on either side of the valve/T-piece
1 x Quick coupler kit (mail/female) CHECK the thread matches the ARB Compressor
1 x 0-6 bar pressure guage (can also get from your local instrumentation supplier) I used Rhomberg.
1 x tyre inflator valve fitting (Midas / Autozone should have)
1 x Roll of PTFE thread tape
Hope I didn't miss anything. Just look at the pic I posted to assemble.
Good luck.

Re: Trying to make own compressor hose, need some help
I also use a Rhomberg as well, but a 0-2bar guage, because I never inflate my tyres over 2bar. On the lux the 35" tyres are 1.5bar on the road and the 33's on the cruiser were at 1.8bar on the road. Great thing about a 2 bar guage is the accuracy you get within that range, especially if you run tyres at 0.4bar like I do on the lux.Sifu-Lux wrote:1 x 0-6 bar pressure guage (can also get from your local instrumentation supplier) I used Rhomberg.

Hi Sifu-Lux, looking at your photo of the hose...I would suggest you fill up your brake fluid reservoir!
