VIERKANT OF ROND

Post by Piesang »

Spot on! ... don't even look at rectangular material, it won't be strong enough, .... just one heavy 'antie' climbing in stands on it and you will need to replace! Serious, you would need 3,2mm or more wall thickness to get similar strength and the extra weight would be substantially more.

Oh, another thing, if you have stress applied through a angular or sharp point to a pipe and a rec. tube, the rec. tube will cave in at the point of stress and buckle / bend whereas the pipe will handle much greater forces with ease. Think of it this way, the moment there is a kink it the pie or tube, that is a weak point where a bend can occur. To put a dent or kink in the curved surface of a pipe is a lot more difficult than in the flat surfaces of rec. tube.
