Extra watertank

Post by Kaspaas »

Good day guys.

A bit help needed please. Been busy the past few weeks, fitting an extra diesel tank-Kaspaas style. Now that the loadbin is removed, it would be a perfect time to fit a extra water tank aswell. My probleme is that the area I can use is 800mx600mmx150mm. So far i could not find a tank even close to those specs. does anybody of a manufacturer that can customize a tank, or an easier route to fit a pre-moulded tank?

thanx

Thanx Rich

I did contact Pioneer plastics, they supluy Makro, the only tank they have in those specs is a 800mmx520mmx300mm, that meens its almost 120l of water wich is a bit of a overkill. The tank must fit in the space were the spare wheel fits, at the end of the loadbin. Not to deep, otherwise it could catch when decending a small hill, or would be to exposed for stones from the rear wheels.

Enige iemand anders met verwysings asseblief? :?

Why build a tank for water? Water is easy enough to carry, and then once in a blue moon - rather stick to fuel.

Problem with water tanks is too keep them fresh inside as the tend to go gagga. Read quite a few remarks from guys wit off road trailers that have tanks fitte and have to sukkel with Milton and a lot of rinsing to clean it before it can be used. Loose containers clean out much easier. But as the guys said you can never have enough fuel tanks

I was at some stage wanting to fit watertanks to the standard side steps of my Hilux, but decided against it as it is unpractical, so I went and Bought plastic 20 L water cans from pioneer plastics........

I have used them a few times and now have to say its much better than having to clean tanks all the time....

Dankie ouens

Point taken, dink ek gaan dit n skip-go gee. Die vars water wat gaan gagga gaan, gaan moeilik wees om te beheer.

The old shape Hilux accepts a tank in the rear wheel arch from below. Both arches take 63 litres accumatively. (imported jobs with vertical rear lights carry 55 litres). I have done 3 vehicles on a non-profitable basis (for friends/hobby). Enough for 10 days with 1 wife and 3 kids. I fill both via piped T from the bottom via a tap and Gardena fitting. The tank has vent at the bottom with stand pipe that bottoms at the top of the inside. The stand pipe has a cross hacksawed to let air through/out. Pipe vent must be at least 400mm higher than the tank otherwise if you park skew on a dune, then the water runs out. Vent is mounted between Cab and bin. I have installed mine 12? jears ago. Empty water after a trip NB NB. Have had no problems with bugs or water going off. Never used Milton et al. I made a s/s tank out of 2? mm 316s/s and a baffle in the middle. Once mounted (3? off 6mm s/s bolts) I injected foam (SIKA?. Type that grows - use to fill cracks in walls) around it and it sits like a leach. Sorry I am mamparra, do not know how to attach photos (allowed on the Forum?). To mount, tips and photo's pse contact me. First time caller on the FORUM !! Go well. stheron@chevron.com
