So as part of my trailer build I started building this swivel awning.

I need a cheap and easy to set up idea to get some shade behind my SFA for when I am angling. Any ideas ?

Thanks guys, I just have to clean up some of the welding, paint and make up some brackets for the trailer

You have to DIY it if you want to go cheap. My "offroad" trailer is not as pleasant on the eye as the commercially available ones. But it cost a fraction of the price and has the same features.

Same with the awning, but having said that, Tentco does a small awning that slides into an aluminium rope rail that you have to attach to the canopy or roof rack. Cheap and the whole thing comes off if you don't need it.

Hehehe. I was thinking of something easy like a bracket in which you place 2 tent poles and then simply pull the net or what ever over. To remove simply take it off and hide it behind the back seats. I have the design in my head, will try to find someone who can build it for me.

So I have made a bracket to mount the awning to my trailer, painted it (poorly as I am the worst painter ever). And fitted. Now to get the canvas done

I should have opted for stainless steel instead of mild steel.

@ Tertius: Froll did a nice one some time ago that he posted somewhere, one of those roll up types.

Looking good Wayne. Mild steel is fine but I would have rather done hot dip galvanising instead of paint.

I know of someone who built the exact same awning and he reported the awning held up in some strong winds. I do have guy ropes that I can attache to each arm. But I think the best plan of action is to close up the awning when a storm hits.

I opted for this route as the previous awning needed too many poles and the setup time was ridicules. This one is much faster and I don't have to carry any poles that takes up space, but the trade off is I have less shade. So Ill camp close to trees, its cooler in any case

Whatever the considerations you made, it's still a great job!

It's also a quick fold away if the wind does pick up too strongly.

Firstgeer (Tony) also built one, but he used stainless.
When the wind blows, it will get under the awning and buckle the arms of the awning over the roof. All you need to do is anchor the ends of the arms to the ground with guy ropes and strong tent pegs. Mine has faced the elements without a problem for six years. The only problem, do not leave it open overnight when you are not there if there is a chance of rain. Mine collects rainwater on the roof, which is the one downfall that I have with it. I close mine up every night before going to bed.
TersiusK, you will have to go a long way to beat a 270* Awning.
Quick up and quick down. You cannot even try to compare it to just about anything else.
