Hilux Trailer For my Fortuner

Post by Yubbz »

Hi Guys....

One day.... and I say one day.... I'd like to build a hilux trailer for my fortuner

What can I say, I' a tad mad.....

I think it would go well. Could put in a water tank and carry the spare underneath...

best of both world's IMHO :D

What you all think? Long term plan OFC.

I am sure that you can be more imaginative than use it for carrying a water tank & a spare wheel...

Kyle,

I'mm thinking of using a single cab bin. Could add on stock rails and use it when hunting, or a canopy and mattresses when camping, the water tank would be for washing hands and maybe a gas shower? The spare would be nice tucked away :)

Battling with how to close up the front with a nosecone, of course I'd like it to look neat :)

I also thought of doing it, put an alu canopy on it with roofrack and a drawer system in the back. But to get one costs a bit unless you have a contact, and the load bit itself weighs quite a bit.

But yes I do like the idea.

Speaking of.... What does a S/C bin weigh? And cost for that matter :alvarin:

Not going to be a cheap exercise... will get a bin in the future then start the build :P

I saw some going for about R10 000. And then to get a trailer builder that will build the chassis part with axle, coupler and tires... Probably R15 000 to R20 000.

THEN, alu canopy.... drawer.... rooftop tent.....

The rear half of a complete scrapped chassis might be a cheaper option. You'll have a diff loc back there too then! :dance1:

Hi All,

The trailer that must track the fort. I am just short of taking my wheels off and measuring myself.

Does anyone know what the hub to hub measurement is on a fortuner? I assume this is the same as on a hilux??

Looking to price axles but need that measurement (Where the rim bolts on to where the rim bolts on the other side of the axle.

Wayne, PM First Geer (Tony). He weighed his with & without the Loadbin, so would know what it weighs, when he started building his CAMPER.
I think that it was in the region of about 450 kgs

:shock2: That heavy :shock2:

What model hilux was that?

So far I've had one response to a loadbin;

R14,500 for "SRX" kind without the flares,
R16,500 for "Raider" that has the flares...

No lights on either but includes the tailgate

Edge that seems way to heavy IMHO. I lifted my SFA Double cab loadbin with Fibreglass canopy off the frame with only me and my dad. I must have weighed around 150kg total. I would estimate that that loadbin empty should be around 150kg as they are double skinned box.

The unloaded trailer should be close to 380 kg depends on what is all fitted and bolted in.

It took four of us to lift it. It must also be lifted over about six mounting points and the filler area also makes this difficult, but I can assure you it is not light. Tony is also a senior citizen (grandparent) three times over (i'm not far behind), which also probably counts for something...
He has the weights written down or printed, so ask him, I am just guessing/trying to remember...
You must also remember that this weight will be carried on at least two additional wheels, so this will effectively be rolling weight and not extra weight that will be carried on/in your loadbin.

I think it is a good idea, but the weight is a problem. I will be watching this one.
