Another drawer system with cargo net.
A little something that has kept me busy for the past week...........
Now the back of an 80 srries cruiser is not actually as big as one thinks.
I wanted a drawer system that would fit 4 x ammo boxes and leave space for a water tank behind the back seat. This meant that the ammo boxes would have to be fitted 'side-ways' rather than 'length-ways'.
This did not leave enough space between the wheel archers to use my old method of using 25mm square alu tube and connect-it's. The squre tube would have taken up 75mm of space which did not exist so a cunning plan was devised with the help of Ciske at Gomad.
He had a box laser cut and bent using 2mm checker plate with a vertical section along the centre to add support for the top deck leaving enough space on each side for the two drawers running on 800mm heavy duty slides. The top deck of the alu box was left off since the actual deck - 16mm MDF - would close it up anyway. Not wanting to lose the space on each side between the drawers & the sides at the back, two sectoins of the MDF were cut out to act as lids for the storage compartments underneath. Wanting to keep everything flush, I used small flush mounting pull-rings to lift the lids off for access. I used carpet on my last DIY system in my Hilux and know just how hard it is to keep clean so this time I went for rubber flooring - a solid roll rather than tiles. This was glued onto the deck and the front of the drawers.
Electrics to the back was taken care of by running 16mm2 pos AND neg cables straight from the aux battery up front - fused of course - and a panel of those nifty plug points from 4x4 Direct hidden away in the side panel. My old fridge slide on the top and plastic handles on the drawers & spring loaded catch bolts completed the job.
Everything only JUST fits.
Oh.......whilst I had the saw out, I also made up an overhead rack for the light stuff - jackets, pillows etc. The rack also has a drop down cargo net to keep things in the back.

Re: Another drawer system with cargo net.
Cargo net was made by Zepplin Interiors...............
Found some light webbing @ R10/m at Leisureland in Bellville. Lots of patience cutting and riveting but happy with the result.
