Fitting roof racks on a KZTE

Post by 4x4Grant »

Hi Guys

So i plan on fitting a roof rack on the cab. From what i can tell the best way is to drill holes through the gutters on the roof.

Who has does this them selfs and do you have pics of your installation and where it was mounted? I am keen to do it but worried about
the position and strenght for the rack.

Thanks
Grant

Grant I would suggest you get the rails and pay a fitment center to do it.

+1

This is the way I did it on mine as well. Easy to remove roofrack when not used and did not trust myself drilling into the cab...

I am not one for drilling into a car at all. scares the hell out of me. even getting someone else to do it worries me.

Going to go see a guy at Toyota today who did all the fitments to see if they can install the tracks for me.

The Rack will do a DIY build.

I've fitted permanent tracks, removed the hood lining, remove the rubber strips on roof, drill 8mm holes. Refit rubber and tracks (tracks also have own rubber strip. Refit hood lining.

No water leaks so far.

Hi Grant, Ive drill four holes per track because I wanted the full length of the track. I've seen guys installing a shorter peace to avoid the bend at the front. I've used 8mm countersunk screws (stainless steel) I've also used a taper drill to countersunk the hole in the track to allow the square head mounting bolt (to fix roof top tent etc) to move freely. Unfortunately no photo's during installation. I once assist a friend with his installation and only loosens the hood lining (hanging on the roof light) more than enough space to get you and in for washers and nuts. Just be careful not to drill into the hood lining. Hope this helps. I think I bought/ordered the tracks from Hannibal Cape Town.

Thanks Andre

I see 4x4 Direct have. Will see what the guy at Toyota says and go from there. I like the idea of having the racks in the gutter. Seems a strong place for them to me.
