DIY Roofrack - Completed

Post by Velo son »

I am building a roofrack to fit on the rails that are fitted to the canopy.
I will be using 40x20x1.2mm rounded rectangular tubing (Aluminium)
It will then be cut and welded.
The roofrack will be fastened to the rails using U-bolts.

The best quotation for the welding up to now is R850, do anyone know if this is good?

I drew the rack on sketchup and this is what its going to look like.
Dimentions are 110x110cm.
Hilux roofrack2.jpg
The function of the rack is to provide extra packing space, nothing heavy(tents, gazebo, chairs ect.)
Any advice?

Can't fault it, make provision for tie-downs also.
Maybe slide camping table below?

For now, I will fasten things around the frame, I'm scared that drilling holes in the frame (for the tie down points) might weaken it and cause the aluminium to tear.

A table will fit, given it is about 19mm thick and around 77cm wide... ...Its actually not that small. I might consider building one.

Thanks Tumelo

Hallo SW

Dit lyk baie goed. Ek het presies dieselfde canopy as jy.

Louis can you not spread the forces on the fibreglass by means on a plate on the underside of the roof of the canopy
