DIY Offroad Caravan
So ek het nou besluit ek gaan ook my eie bou.

Thins are on track to get the basic's together. Perhaps someone can help me out. Do you get 185mm circular saw blades for aluminium and where to buy? I can not find them, only bigger.
this is to cut the alu sheets as they are too long to go through the guillotine that is available to me.

Re: DIY Offroad Caravan

Re: DIY Offroad Caravan
I managed to get my hands on this
It is the Jurgens Oryx, otherwise know as the trax, as this one comes off a Nissan Hardbody.
The logic behind it is that I got it for less than what the project would cost to complete if I was to build it all myself.
The bonus is my trailer is exactly the right width, and about 600mm longer that will give me space to make a nosecone as packing space is limited.

It will look better behind a cruiser than the Audi in the pic
Don't worry I'll definitely have some canvas work to be done.

Re: DIY Offroad Caravan
So I got the Trax home, so the plan for the weekend is to get it of the trailer and on stilts so I can get to work, I have that evil wood rot on the one panel so I want to get that fixed. And then then get working on a frame to bolt on the trailer.

Robbie, very nice looking trailer with an interesting name ?
Did you build it yourself ?
Total costs ?
Would like to see it open and hear what the set up time is ?

Wayne, could you not repair the wood rot on the body by just replacing the wood or does that damage the pannels ?
Was the rust on the framm to bad to use the frame ?
Your built is looking good so far...

Re: DIY Offroad Caravan
It was made out of wood with alu extrusions that held it together. I bought 3 sheets shutter board to repair some rot but as i replaced one panel i saw the rest was also shot. So i did the math. Buy some steel, cost me R800 and use the alu sheets i have. Or redo all the wood at a cost of R500 a sheet. So i opted for the aluHaboob wrote:Wayne, could you not repair the wood rot on the body by just replacing the wood or does that damage the pannels ?

So not a lot of work was done this weekend, I got the last door done and I cleaned up a bit. Geel streep is on so next is the slide for the fridge and electrical system.

I dunno, the alu will fade a bit, I was thinking of just slapping on a couple of vinyl's. Paint will just add to my cost and scratch up.

Re: DIY Offroad Caravan
So the work continues.
The Easter weekend delayed me a bit as no one has stock, so this weekend might also be a slow one if my stock does not arrive.
I have ordered the stove and sink with the tap (*a* expensive) , Chane is working on the awning, and the electrics will be going in as soon as my 2 x 105 ahr batteries arrives.
So a lot to do. I must say, all the small things that goes into building this thing is what pushes up the cost quite a bit. :?
