Stuff urgently needed - 1985 Hilux D/Cab

Post by petri oosthuizen »

Good day Gents!!

I've bought a 1 owner Hilux last week, VERY original, I'm a car salesman but I think this is a keeper.

I'm, looking at bringing this back to 100% stock standard condition.

Where do I get the following, and PLEASE post any other useful stuff:

1) The seats have been re-upholstered in brown vinyl. Looks OK, but not original.

1.1) Where do I get the original front and rear seats (with the cloth), and alternatively

1.2) Does anyone know if companies like Jackalberry/M&M still make seat covers for these, and if they have a "template"?? It's the model with the front bench.

2) Did these Luxes come out with split rims or steel wheels, and were they 15 or 16'?? (I think they were 16' grey splits.......??)

3) The stripes are still original, but a bit faded. Where do I get new ones - at the dealers??

I've had it serviced last week, new belts, timing etc etc. Still not 100% (does'nt pull as well as it could - 4 Y engine), but more about that later.

NICE vehicle..........it has PS, AC, original radio, 1 owner from new (I know the Oom quite well) - I just LOVE these old SFA's!!! :cooldude:

Hallo Petri,

Some piccies of what this is all about

The interior is like new.....plastic carpets seem like they have never ever been used. The Oom even put rEan extra vinyl cover over the transmission tunnel.

Body never saw paint, even the load bin is original.

BTW, the Oom gave me the (new!!) agterklap with, and also brand new beestralies that he never used.

I'm losing the canopy, if anyone is interested........R 3000 and its yours. ;-)

Is the Land Cruiser 16' splits and this Hilux the same???

Chopper, if your splits will fit, please email me a pic if possible and a price, and where you are located - dankie!!!!

Hi Petri ,
Looks good . In Australia at least coulded get original cloth covers browns / tans went out years ago .
Re stripes think if you can find right red match will get away with just replacing red .
Re 4y I know mine performs best . If you call it that on premium fuel . Also carby could need overhaul . Russell
No one has ever made it out alive yet .

Busy removing the stripes - helluva job, I'm using a heat gun for that. I've finished the back, it actually looks quite nice without stripes.

Then, it still has a "starve" at higher RPM's - I think it might be something to do with the carb, maybe jets or something.

It's at Tiger W&T now, feels a bith shaky at above 110km/h.

I've removed the (for sale) canopy and put on the beestralies - do'nt really like the beestralies. :boss:
