94 Hilux D/C Rebuild + V8 Lexus Conversion Project
Good day ladies & gents.
I baught my first Hilux 4 months ago after the awesome "Rust de winter" adventure. I fell in love with the 4x4 family.
I baught this Hilux from a farmer, you can imagine the state of it.
This is where the fun began, I am a perfectionist and decided to do a proper rebuild. I met a gentleman at the Rust de Winter weekend with a Hilux/Lexus conversion, I knew what I had to do.
I will post pictures and comments of the project.
Please add your comments and knowledge, I am sure that I´m going to pay some school fees further on.
I will post the progress so far, I am working in Angola and can only work on her when I go on leave.

Re: 94 Hilux D/C Rebuild + V8 Lexus Conversion Project
I took her home and immediately started to disassemble to assess the damage.
I could not believe the terrible state she was in!
I started by reconditioning the brakes front and rear.
Replaced the wheel bearings and repaired the hub assemblies.

The best was to remove the 22R engine to make space for the V8 Lexus!!
She´s coming out of the panelbeaters on Friday!

Went through much the same exercise with Bulldog, yet I never get tired of reading this kind of report. When the 'Lux (have you a name for it yet?) comes out the spray booth, he/she looks like a brand new showroom model!

I fitted the new Hilux seats into my 94 D/C. Looks awesome!
My wife and me are on the shorter side. These seats sit nice and high. At last I can see the bull bar!
Going back home December from Angola. I can't wait for the maiden voyage with my V8!

Re: 94 Hilux D/C Rebuild + V8 Lexus Conversion Project
Hi guys.
Yes, I fitted the D4D seats. The front ones fit in place..just need to drill a small hole in the body to accomodate the dowels.
With a 2 pound hammer jou can bend the brackets a little bit to look flush.
I need to make some brackets for the rear seat, luckily I have a friend with an engineering shop.
I will fabricate the brackets and take pictures before and after installation.
P.S. Megaworld quoted me R35 000.00 to fit ARB lockers front and rear! Crazy he?? But still worth it.
Still have to change the ratios first.

Ceramic coated branches.
Twee 56mm pype tot in 1ste boks.
Een 67 mm tot by 2de boks.

Blitzkrieg het arriveer by TNT Exhaust Middelburg!

Now I wish I followed my gut feeling and went with the V8 conversion. Jaco it looks great, keep up the enthusiam and neat work. I just completed my 3.0 KZ conversion and it takes a lot of will power to keep going, especially with the teething problems.

Ongelukkig maak my meganiese vermoens net my mechanic ryk...

Ongelukkig maak my meganiese vermoens net my mechanic ryk...

Ek het laas week by 4x4 Mega World hier in Nelspruit gaan draai om uittevind oor replacement bumpers.

Ek stel baie beslis belang.

Net 'n paar vrae asb:
Ek sal import van US af.
5. Waar in Gauteng kan ek 'n import agter as koop? (30 spline side shafts)
Groete,
Jaco.

Re: 94 Hilux D/C Rebuild + V8 Lexus Conversion Project
Vroulief is lekker jaloers.

Ek sal import van US af.
What does a disk brake conversion cost? i'm interested in doing one on my SFA.

I had a chat with guy from the US, it's about 800 USD for the kit excl. shipping.Tarquin wrote:4. Ek sal import van US af.

The problem is that the kit is bolt on for the Surf, he can not guarantee that the kit will fit exactly onto the SFA Hilux.
When I'm back in SA I will see if I can prepare a kit with some help of my engineering shop friends.
I will post a thread when I do.

Re: 94 Hilux D/C Rebuild + V8 Lexus Conversion Project

Do a search on the site - I remember reading about upgraded disc brakes available in S.A. If my memory serves me correct the cost is/was much less as well
