DIY Alu fold-up table

Post by WayneSchalk »

If it isnt too late why not incorporate some collapbsible wash bowl into the table so you dont need to take them out when you put it away. They are also going to take up far less space!

Any Idea of what the dimensions is? Or were to buy? if it is the same dimensions as the ones I have it will work, if not Ill make a plan with a pvc one, thats the idea behind it, so that it folds up with the table.

This is the idea, this will make it sturdy but double the fold up thickness.

Hi,

I saw this table once, wanted to build one but the time!! I bought 2 bowles like the one in the first picture, reinforced the corners with some PVC (? the groundsheet stuff) which I pasted on the corners with some dowl pins in there, now it is sturdy, and it folds flat. Without the pins it collapses and the water spills.

Cheers,

C

Now that is what my father did, but the one I'm building, because of the extra frame around the wash basin it will not work.

Ek het so 2 jaar terug ander tafels by Caravan & Outdoor ? gekoop, ook redelik plat. (1000mm x 580 mm)

Here's my take on ye 'olde table. Idea was to get away without any welding.
Still a bit wobbly due to some play on the hinge bolts, but hope to sort that with braces.

Thinking of strenghtening the legs where the cut-outs were made with flat bar braces on the sides, but the tubing walls are quite sturdy

Seems the Plastic braces reams a bit when drilled; should have tried a 5.5mm bit for a tighter fit with 6mm bolts

BLINK PLAN van die JAAR!

I agree, support those legs and it will be much better. Either pop rivet a alu flatbar on it or put another sqr tubing inside with two Connect It braces.

Sal weer pics opsit sodra ek klaar is.

Omtrent so 760mm, wou 'n lekker medium hê tussen sit & staan by die tafel.

Goed so hier is myne

Still a bit wobbly due to some play on the hinge bolts, but hope to sort that with braces.

Finally got the Alu plate, 1480 x 602 x 1.2mm @ R230 cutting & VAT included.
Added another tube down the centre to support the plate.
Stuck it down onto the frame with some "no more nails" & riveted the edging on.

Cleaned the top with SS brite s/steel cleaner to get rid of the oxides

Rofweg so R762 - R60 in leftovers = R702 + elbow grease ;-)

Maizey's - 12m alu tube (waarvan ek 3m oor het) + 3 pakke connect-it = R382

Chamberlain's - 2.5m flat bar (19mm x 3), 5m Alu table edging, 4.8mm rivits, 3.2mm rivets, 6mm bolts & nylocks, plastic caps = R150

Non Ferrous Metal Works - alu sheet cut to size (1480 x 602 x 1.2) = R230

Tx! It was actually measured to fit the frame of the canvas canopy so that it can serve as a shelf for the mattress & sleeping bags and wouldn't need any special mounts/brackets..but definately a nice size. I'm well chuffed with it ;-)

:laugh2: het gedink so in en om 5kg, maar weeg toe nou 7kg. Sq tubing is 2.5kg per 6m lengte, dus 3.75kg vir raam en pote, blad skat ek op 1.5 tot 2kg
