I installed one of these in my Hilux a while ago, and I must say, for someone who has never seen the inside of any diff, it was fairly easy. The only two things that are important is to have a large coffe tin handy and to arrange beforehand to have someone set the backlash after the locker is installed.

The coffee tin idea was discovered after a lenghty struggle of trying to keep the very awkwardly shaped pumpkin steady in a vice / on a workbench / between the legs of a willing helper.

I installed the EZ locker in my rear diff, and it has worked perfectly, but I am swapping it to the front to see what the difference is. Worthwile cheap solution for a locker as compared to an ARB (R13K    )

I had one of these in my cruiser, but it's diff is big enough that you don't need to remove the diff carrier, so it's a very quick install in place.
Unfortunately the EZ-locker couldn't handle the power and stripped after only 2 4x4 trails. It was replaced under warranty, but I didn't want the same problem again, so I paid in a few grand and upgraded to a full Detroit Locker.

Here are some pics of my installation:

If I had to buy one of these lunch box lockers again, I'd go for the Aussie locker. Aussie has no tire size limit on their warranty. With the EZ-loker they told me my tyres that were 265/75R16 instead of the stock 275/70R16, were borderline for the warranty.

I want to know what your feel is regarding the performance of the locker. How does it feel having no control over the locker. Does it come in while going around sharp corners?

Guys say that when driving in soft sand, the locker locks up and you lose steering..

Comments please
Later....

In sand it will lock up and you will loose steering, especially if fitted to the front. With it in the rear you'll hardly ever know about it offroad.

I've had a EZ-locker in the back of a cruiser and a Lockright in the back of a SJ410. In both these vehicles it was very well behaved on tarr and worked excellent offroad.

I bought my hilux with a Lockright in the front, rear has a gearmax locker. I absolutely hate the auto locker in the front axle. It makes steering hard and in many places, if try ad turn through a cross axle situation the wheel just don't want to turn, because the steering just locks up, then I shift back to 2wd to get through.....so in effect in some places it makes my vehicle less capable.

The fans of these lockers are usually people who had no lockers before and the offroad improvement far outways the problems that comes with it, that's why many people are so "happy" with them....but compared to a selectable locker, except for price, there is just no comparison, the selectable is a 100 times better.

People tend to exagerate with loosing steering in sand.

I would certainly prefer to select / de-select whenever I choose, and not be surprised by a locker that kicks in of it's own, especially on tarmac. :problem:
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Bennie, sorry for the late reply, I seemed to have missed this one.

Yes it is still in, but in the back.

BTW, is it possible to fit a Gearmax locker in the front diff?

Hi
This post was dead for a while, I whould like to know if riceburner still has the eazy locker available and if not where can i get one at what price.
I understand your dislikes and favouring the fully manual lockers, but as stated above I am one of those guys that have never had a locker and will be satisfied with whatever reliable gain I can get at the lowest price(resession    )
