DIY Hilux offroad bumper - Monty Style

Post by Montie »

Started with the idea to build a offroad bumper, only got to the cross beam in the front and then work and a host of other stuff got in the way, So, when I left work this Friday afternoon, I promised myself that this weekend, I will spend on the overhead console and on that freakin bumper!

So yesterday spent the day on the console and today focused on the bumper.Having looked at a LOT of different bumpers in the past, I saw this pic on Alibaba and decided that looks very functional with least amount of work. Turns out, the Hilux front end does not allow this simple shape, so took it from there... Not done but at least came a long way in one day...Image Link Broken

Die middelste gedeelte word permanent, die klomp inlas stukke op die kant is bloot net templates, vir beide die linker en regterkant, dit moet ook uit 3mm staal gesny word. Gelukkig maak daai staal saag mens se lewe maklik!

Is eerste keer ek so staal saag sien, lyk na 'n baie handige stuk gereedskap.

Uitstekende stuk gereedskap! Sny vinniger as 'n grinder en die werkstuk is baie kouer as wanneer jy met die grinder gesny het!

Ek weet net nie hoe om 'n video te laai nie, hoewel daar seker baie videos op Youtube daaroor is.

Thanks for the encouragement! Have made some progress, all welded up, grinded and smoothed down with the help of flapper discs and temporarily painted with stone chip to get the vehicle mobile again.

Still a lot of outstanding work to do, refitting the bumper lights, brackets for the shackles, 50x35 grid in the vent hole, the front tow bar receptacle (removable tow hitch) and bolting the bumper down.. then removal for sandblasting and powder coating

Very nice.

Have you got a drawing with measurements maybe? I've been thinking of building a new one for my hilux. My current one is overkill and way too heavy.

Unfortunately I made no drawings, I did not think at the time that there will be duplicates, so just went with what felt right. Some of the CAD templates (Cardboard Assisted Design) are still around though
